The lubrication device delivers a lubricant to the perforating device which provides intermittently spaced cuts to a moving web, also referred to as perforations. The lubrication device includes a retaining member, a plenum, and a comb having a plurality of comb channels. The plenum and the plurality of comb channels are in fluid communication with one another and deliver a lubricant to the perforating device. Lubrication of the perforating device in this manner may improve knife life, perforation quality and web handling.

Perforator lubrication system

A web break apparatus is disclosed for cutting and severing a web. The web break apparatus includes a first rotating device that rotates generally at the same speed as a moving web. Positioned on the circumference of the first rotating device is a web engaging device and a straining element. When a web break is desired, the web engaging device and straining element are brought into contact with the web. The web engaging device engages the web, while the straining element causes a web break. The web break apparatus may be used in any suitable winding system. For instance, the winding system may be for winding a web to produce rolled products.

The present invention generally relates to an improved winding apparatus useful in the production of filament wound products and particularly wound tubular products having high length to diameter ratios. The improved winding apparatus comprises a support means for supporting a rotatable mandrel during the manufacture of wound products, the support means comprising a plurality of axially spaced pins extending circumferentially around the mandrel, and a support assembly having a semicircular inner face and an opening, wherein a portion of the plurality of pins is brought into contact with the inner face of the support assembly when the mandrel is rotated.

Filament winding apparatus

The present invention provides a perforating station comprising two or more discrete perforating stations, the stations synchronized with one another to cut a line of perforations across a web, such as a web of tissue paper, moving at high speeds. By providing two or more synchronized perforating stations the perforating station may increase the number of impacts per minute compared to prior art perforating devices.

Registration and inspection systems and methods for use on a winder are disclosed. The systems and methods include scanning a region proximate a winding module with one or more sensors to determine a product defect. The product defect is then associated with a winding process parameter, such as percent roll build information or the identity of the particular sensor to first detect the defect. The winding process parameter is used to classify the defect into one or more defect profiles. The defect profiles can be based at least in part on segmenting the roll build of a web onto a winding module into a plurality of inspection windows and segmenting a plurality of sensors into a plurality of inspection sensor segments.

Winder registration and inspection system

An apparatus for perforating sheet materials is disclosed. The apparatus includes a perforation blade that defines a plurality of teeth for perforating sheet materials, such as tissue products. Each tooth on the perforation blade is defined by a pair of opposing side walls. The teeth are separated along an edge of the perforation blade by a plurality of recesses. In accordance with the present disclosure, the side walls have a non-zero angle with respect to the length direction of the blade. In one embodiment, each recess can have a slanted U-shape such that all of the side walls are parallel. In an alternative embodiment, the recesses can have a V-shape such that adjacent side walls extend in divergent directions. Perforation blades made according to the present disclosure prevent snagging and picking when a material is perforated.

Perforation blade for perforating tissue products

A winder for winding a web to produce a rolled product is provided. Included in one exemplary embodiment is a plurality of independent winding modules. The winding modules may be configured to wind the web to form a rolled product by center winding, surface winding, and/or combinations of center and surface winding. In accordance with the present disclosure, at least one tail sealing apparatus is present in the system. The tail sealing apparatus includes an applicator device that transfers adhesive to a web being wound prior to completion of the roll. In one embodiment, the applicator device remains in contact with the wound roll during the completion of the winding cycle in order to have an ironing effect on the finished roll.

Method and apparatus for applying adhesive to a moving web being wound into a roll

Generally, the present disclosure is directed to, in one embodiment, a process for controlling a converting line web. More specifically, a sheet material is provided on the converting line. A loss of control is detected in the sheet material web and the sheet material web is broken at a location upstream from the converting line web rewinder. The broken sheet material web is redirected.

Rewinder web chop with early detection and web diversion to eliminate equipment damage

A web cut-off assembly for a rewinder apparatus includes a bedroll having a pair of retractable bedroll blades that move to a protracted position to engage the web material for a web cutting event. A chopper roll is disposed proximate to the bedroll and includes a first blade and a second blade extending from a circumference thereof. The first and second blades rotationally intermeshing with the bedroll blades in the web cutting event. The second blade is configured to effectively stretch and hold the web relative to the bedroll blades as the first blade severs the web in the web cutting process.
