An antenna structure includes a radiator element configured for operation at a first microwave frequency range and at a second microwave frequency range that is higher than the first microwave frequency range, and a reflector including the radiator element attached thereto. The reflector includes an enclosure that houses the radiator element and a radiating aperture. The antenna structure further includes a radome assembly adjacent the radiating aperture. The radome assembly includes a flexible radome having a thickness that is less than a wavelength corresponding to the first or second microwave frequency ranges, and a tensioning member that extends along a perimeter of the flexible radome and maintains tension in a surface of the flexible radome.

Flexible radome structures

A radome for an antenna is provided as a composite of an isotropic outer layer and a structural layer of foamed polymer material. The composite is dimensioned to enclose an open end of the antenna. The radome may be retained upon the antenna by a retaining element and fasteners. The outer layer may be a polymer material with a water resistant characteristic. The structural layer may project inward and/or outward with respect to a plane of the seating surface of the radome.

Broad band radome for microwave antenna

A radome for an antenna is provided as a composite of an isotropic outer layer and a structural layer of foamed polymer material. The composite is dimensioned to enclose an open end of the antenna. The radome may be retained upon the antenna by a retaining element and fasteners. The outer layer may be a polymer material with a water resistant characteristic.

An antenna mount is provided with a bracket with an azimuth slot, an azimuth pivot hole and a boss hole. An azimuth adjuster with an extension portion passes through a boss seated in the boss hole. An offset portion of the azimuth adjuster has an azimuth fastener aperture spaced apart from a longitudinal axis of the extension portion. An azimuth fastener passes through the base, the azimuth slot and the azimuth fastener aperture. An azimuth pivot fastener passes through the base and the azimuth pivot hole. The azimuth slot is provided as an arc segment with a center point at the azimuth pivot hole. Adjustment of a longitudinal position along the extension portion of an interconnection between the boss and the extension portion drives the azimuth fastener within the azimuth slot to pivot the base about the azimuth pivot hole with respect to the bracket.

Compact antenna mount

An antenna hub for a reflector dish has a frame with a feed aperture. A plurality of feet are coupled to the frame; each of the feet provided with a dish fastener coupling axis normal to a dish surface contacting each of the feet when the reflector dish is seated upon the feet, the feed bore of the reflector dish aligned coaxial with the feed aperture. The frame and feet may be formed via extrusion.

Mounting hub for antenna

An interconnection retaining a radome upon a periphery of a reflector dish has a plurality of curved channel portions, each of the channel portions provided with an open periphery slot and an open retention slot. The periphery slot dimensioned to receive the peripheries of the radome and reflector dish. The channel portions are arranged end-to-end adjacent to one another, encircling the peripheries of the radome and reflector dish seated within the periphery slot. A gap may be provided between one or more of the channel portions. A link member is seated within the retention slot at an end of each adjacent channel portion. The retention slot at the end of each of the adjacent channel portions is crimped upon the link member. The link member may be, for example, a portion of threaded rod or a molded portion of polymer material.

Method and apparatus for radome and reflector dish interconnection

An antenna mount is provided with a pivot base and a pivot saddle rotatably coupled to the pivot base by a pivot connection and at least one pivot arm connection. The pivot connection is provided with dual opposing conical countersunk head pivot connection bolts seated within conical countersunk pivot connection bolt holes of the pivot saddle, the conical countersunk head pivot connection bolts extending through the conical countersunk pivot connection bolt holes of the pivot saddle to couple with the pivot base about a pivot axis.

Alignment stable adjustable antenna mount

A polarization adjustment assembly for a reflector antenna is provided with a radio bracket with a mounting flange. The mounting flange is coupled to a hub provided with a stop portion. Fasteners couple the radio bracket to the hub via slots in the mounting flange, rotatable with respect to the hub within the extents of the slots. An adjustment bolt passes through a boss coupled to the mounting flange. The adjustment bolt abuts the stop portion, whereby longitudinal displacement of the adjustment bolt with respect to the boss rotates the radio bracket with respect to the hub. Alternatively, the positions of the boss and stop portion on the mounting flange and hub may be exchanged.

Method and apparatus for fine polarization reflector antenna adjustment

An antenna reflector includes a central segment with a peripheral coupling portion and a plurality of peripheral segments, each provided with a reflector portion and a shield portion. A proximal portion of each shield portion is dimensioned to couple with the peripheral coupling portion, a reflector portion edge of each peripheral segment is dimensioned to couple with adjacent reflector portion edges and a shield portion edge of each peripheral segment is dimensioned to couple with adjacent shield portion edges. The central segment and the reflector portion of the peripheral segments together form a reflector dish. The shield portions together provide a circumferential shield extending from a periphery of the reflector dish along an antenna boresight of the reflector dish.

Segmented antenna reflector with shield

A band clamp for coupling a radome to a distal end of a reflector dish for improving the front to back ratio of a reflector antenna, the band clamp provided with an inward projecting proximal lip and an inward projecting distal lip. The distal lip dimensioned with an inner diameter equal to or less than a reflector aperture of the reflector dish. The proximal lip provided with a turnback region dimensioned to engage an outer surface of a signal area of the reflector dish in an interference fit. A width of the band clamp may be dimensioned, for example, between 0.8 and 1.5 wavelengths of an operating frequency.

An enclosure for the open end of a reflector antenna includes a cylindrical shroud coupled to a distal end of the reflector antenna, the shroud generally coaxial with a longitudinal axis of the reflector antenna. A retaining band is coupled to an inner diameter of the shroud, proximate a distal end of the shroud. The retaining band is provided with a retaining groove open radially inward towards the longitudinal axis. The retaining groove provided with a bottom extending radially outward beyond an outer diameter of the shroud. A radome is seated within the retaining groove.

Radome and shroud enclosure for reflector antenna

An antenna feed angular alignment tool for an antenna feed and method of use. The tool having a body with a bore between a first end and a second end; a capsule, retained within the bore, having a first material and a second material enclosed within a cavity of the capsule. Coupling feature(s) integral with the body, proximate the first end are configured to rotationally couple with the antenna feed. The first material and the second material having different densities are movable within the capsule, indicating when the capsule and thereby the tool are aligned with a horizontal plane.

Antenna feed angular alignment tool

A radome and a reflector antenna configured to mate with the radome. The radome has a central portion and a surrounding outer portion. The central portion having a radius selected to redirect a reflected component of the transmitted RF signal from the radome to the vertex area of the reflector. The outer portion has a larger radius selected to minimize radiation pattern degradation. RF absorbing material located at the vertex area reduces return loss of the reflector antenna. The radome attaches to the reflector via a plurality of tabs formed proximate the periphery of the radome that correspond to a plurality of cut outs in the periphery of the reflector. When inserted and rotated, the radome secures to the reflector without requiring tools.

Dual radius twist lock radome and reflector antenna for radome

A reflector antenna with a self supported feed assembly that may be formed by injection molding. A waveguide portion of the feed assembly has a dielectric cone at a distal end that supports and retains a sub reflector, for example along a periphery of the sub reflector. A conductive surface coating on an internal surface of the waveguide and a bottom surface of the sub reflector creates surfaces with RF reflective and conductive properties. The return loss of the feed assembly is reduced due to a reduction of the thickness of the material forming the dielectric cone, compared to prior dielectric block designs and a soft boundary condition produced by dielectric coating of the waveguide which aids in reducing reflections to the vertex area of the reflector.
