The invention provides methods to identify, diagnose, and treat kidney cancer through the detection of expression and/or activity of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). The detection of the presence of a polypeptide with ALK kinase activity (e.g., by detecting expression and/or activity of the polypeptide), identify those kidney cancers that are likely to respond to an ALK-inhibiting therapeutic.

Methods of detecting a polypeptide having anaplastic lymphoma kinase activity in kidney cancer

An isolated and purified GnRH protein receptor protein including an amino acid sequence selected from the group and an isolated and purified DNA which comprises a nucleotide sequence coding for the GnRH protein receptor protein. Also, a vector comprising the DNA of the GnRH protein receptor protein, a transformant carrying the vector comprising the DNA of the GnRH protein receptor protein, a process for producing a GnRH protein receptor protein or a salt thereof including culturing the transformant carrying the vector comprising the DNA of the GnRH protein receptor protein under sufficient conditions and for appropriate time to express the GnRH protein receptor protein, and a method of screening for a ligand to the GnRH protein receptor protein including contacting the GnRH protein receptor protein or a salt thereof with a sample to be tested. A screening method for a compound capable of inhibiting binding of the GnRH protein receptor protein with a ligand. Also, a kit for screening a compound capable of inhibiting binding of the GnRH protein receptor protein with a ligand including the GnRH protein receptor protein or a salt.

Cloning and expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptors

Lamprey GnRH-III polypeptides for the four species of fish lamprey are disclosed. Also disclosed is a procedure for producing such polypeptides by recombinant techniques. Also disclosed are methods for utilizing such polypeptides for sterilizing fish.

Lamprey GnRH-III polypeptides and methods of making thereof

Novel isolated cDNA encoding the precursor of the novel gonadotropin-releasing hormones in four species of the fish lamprey is disclosed. The use of such cDNA's in studying the phylogenetic relationship of various species of fish and vertebrates overall; and the use of such cDNA's for controlling the gonadal development and spawning of fish, including inducing and inhibiting maturation, spawning and reproduction, is also described. Methods by which the novel peptides may be administered to fish to control their reproduction are also described.
