A method includes affixing a co-planar sensor on a surface, using a processor, and providing an output. The method includes affixing a co-planar sensor on a surface at a first tissue site. The sensor has a force transducer disposed at an aperture of a rigid guard member. The guard member and the transducer are in co-planar alignment. The transducer is configured to provide an electrical signal corresponding to an internal pressure at the first tissue site. The method includes using the processor to compare the internal pressure with a reference value. Based on the comparison, the method includes providing an output corresponding to compartment syndrome at the first tissue site.

Noninvasive pressure monitoring

A device includes a digit probe, a plurality of optical elements, a processor, and a communication module. The digit probe has an interior surface and has an exterior surface. The interior surface is configured to engage a digit and the exterior surface is configured to engage a tissue site associated with the digit. The plurality of optical elements is coupled to at least one of the interior surface and the exterior surface. The plurality of optical elements includes at least one emitter and includes at least one detector. The processor is coupled to the plurality of optical elements. The processor is configured to generate a measure of arterial oxygenation corresponding to the digit and configured to generate a measure of regional oxygenation corresponding to the tissue site. The communication module is coupled to the processor. The communication module is configured to communicate the measure of arterial oxygenation and regional oxygenation with a remote device.

Universal fingertip sensor

A sensor assembly which includes a first physiological parameter sensor configured to sense a physiological parameter and a first reactance sensor connected to the first physiological parameter sensor. The first reactance sensor provides a signal corresponding to a position of a tissue relative to the first reactance sensor and corresponding to the first physiological parameter sensor.

Reactance sensing for improved sensor placement

A device includes a first portion, an information element, a second portion, and an encoder element. The first portion includes a planar substrate and at least one optical element coupled to the substrate. The optical element has an axis and the axis is substantially normal to the substrate. The information element sensor is coupled to the substrate. The information element sensor is configured to provide an information signal. The second portion includes a membrane configured to couple to the planar substrate. The membrane has a contact surface configured to couple with tissue. The encoder element is coupled to the membrane. The information signal corresponds to proximity of the encoder element.

Segmented sensor

A handheld device includes a contact surface, an optical module, a processor, a display module, and a user operable switch. The optical module is disposed on the contact surface. The optical module has at least one optical emitter and at least one optical detector. The at least one optical detector has a light shield associated with the contact surface. The light shield is configured to exclude ambient light from the contact surface when the contact surface abuts tissue of a patient. The processor is coupled to the optical module and configured to execute instructions for determining a measure of oximetry corresponding to the tissue. The display module is coupled to the processor and is configured to indicate the measure of oximetry. The user operable switch is configured to activate at least one of the processor, the optical module, and the display module.

Self-contained regional oximetry

A device includes a clamp and a sensor. The sensor can be permanently attached to the clamp and tissue by the force exerted by the clamp. The clamp includes a first jaw member and a second jaw member. The first jaw member has a jaw face and the second jaw member has a complementary face. The second jaw member is held in alignment with the first jaw member by a joint. The joint has an elastic member configured to exert a compressive force between the jaw face and the complementary face. The joint is configured to allow movement of the jaw face relative to the complementary face in directions corresponding to pitch, roll, yaw, and heave. The compressive force is distributed over a surface of the jaw face. The sensor is coupled to the jaw face or held in place by the compressive force of the jaw face. The sensor is configured to generate a sensor signal corresponding to a physiological parameter of tissue proximate the jaw face.

Tissue clamp for noninvasive physiological measurement

A device includes a pliable membrane, a sensor module and a communication module. The pliable membrane includes a semi-rigid structural member. The membrane is configured to conform to a tissue surface. The structural member is configured to retain the membrane in a particular shape corresponding to the tissue surface. The sensor module is coupled to the membrane. The sensor module is configured to generate an electrical signal corresponding to a physiological parameter associated with the tissue surface. The communication module is coupled to the membrane. The communication module is configured to receive the electrical signal and wirelessly communicate data corresponding to the electrical signal with a remote device.

Disposable oximeter device

A device includes a clamp and a sensor. The sensor can be attached to the clamp and tissue by the force exerted by the clamp. The clamp includes a first jaw member having a jaw face and a second jaw member having a complementary face. The first and second jaw members are held in alignment by a joint. The joint has an elastic member configured to exert a compressive force. The joint allows movement of the jaw face relative to the complementary face in directions corresponding to pitch, roll, yaw, and heave. The compressive force is distributed over a surface of the jaw face. The sensor is coupled to the jaw face or held in place by the compressive force of the jaw face. Systems and methods provide a measurement system that modifies the display format based on the type of measurements or and/or the value measured, and these modifications are automatically made based on the information stored within sensors, sensor pods and/or alarm limits.
