A solid block detergent composition is described which can be dispensed with a water spray to form an aqueous detergent for cutting and removing grease, removing and suspending soils and rinsing easily leaving cleaned ware. The solid block detergent contains a neutralized sulfonated anionic surfactant in combination with various processing aids to optimize soil removal in a formulation that can be pressed for form a solid.

The disclosure relates to pH sensitive color indicators which indicate the efficacy of a cleaning composition for antimicrobial activity by exhibiting a color change. In particular, the pH sensitive color indicators comprise a pH sensitive dye and a substrate, wherein the dye is bound to the substrate. In an aspect of the disclosure, the dye can be chemically bound, physically bound, coated on a substrate, or painted on a substrate.

The disclosure relates a surfactant package for use in hard surface cleaning compositions, preferably floor cleaning compositions which pair an anionic linear alkyl sulfonate surfactant and a nonionic surfactant in a ratio of 1:1 to 9:1. This combination provides for synergistic cleaning of both proteinaceous food soils (red soils) and hydrocarbon-based oily soils (black soils) while also reducing foam produced by the composition. Synergistic nonionic surfactants include EO/PO alcohol alkoxylates or EO/PO fatty alcohol surfactants with a propylene oxide to ethylene oxide to ratio of greater than 1.

A method and apparatus for dispensing a solution of a solid product in a fluid. A freestanding apparatus comprises an inlet portion through which fluid enters, a reaction portion in which the fluid encounters and dissolves the product to form a solution, and an outlet portion from which the solution exits the apparatus. Fluid may encounter the product from a single direction or multiple directions, and from the top or the bottom. The apparatus can include a fluid diverter for directing fluid to the desired portion of the solid product. The apparatus may be configured to receive a particularly shaped solid product, and may comprise a lid or gate to prevent fluid from contacting the product undesirably.
