Some embodiments of the technology disclosed herein relate to a system having a hydrodynamic separator element defining an element inlet and an element outlet. The element outlet has a first element outlet and a second element outlet. The hydrodynamic separator element has a plurality of curved microfluidic channels in fluid communication. Each of the plurality of microfluidic channels are arranged to operate in parallel. Each microfluidic channel defines a channel inlet downstream of the element inlet and a channel outlet having a first channel outlet upstream of the first element outlet and a second channel outlet upstream of the second element outlet. A flow characteristic sensor is in sensing communication with the separator element. A controller is in data communication with the flow characteristic sensor, where the controller is configured to provide a first alert upon the flow characteristic being outside a first threshold.

A filter including a first flow face extending along a lateral direction and a transverse direction of the filter, wherein the first flow face includes at least one contaminant retention layer first edge and at least one flow defining layer first edge, a second flow face spaced in an axial direction from the first flow face, wherein the second flow face extends along the length and the width of the filter and includes at least one contaminant retention layer second edge and at least one flow defining layer second edge, at least one contaminant retention layer extending from the contaminant layer first edge to the contaminant layer second edge, and at least one flow defining layer adjacent to at least one of the contaminant retention layers, the at least one flow defining layer extending from the flow defining layer first edge to the flow defining layer second edge, wherein at least one of the flow defining layers defines at least one fluid flow path in the axial direction as fluid moves from the first flow face toward the second flow face.

The current technology relates to filter media configurations where the filter media has a surface with a treatment that increases the roll off angle of the surface for a 50 μL water droplet when the surface is immersed in toluene. Some example filter media have a fluted configuration, and some example filter media have multiple layers. Filter media having multiple layers can be single facer media, for example, where one layer is planar and another layer is fluted.

A system for separating a solvent includes a first mixing tank comprising a waste solvent feed and a reactant feed; a first filter comprising a nanofiltration membrane; a distillation column or an evaporator; a condenser or cooler; and a pervaporation membrane. A method for separating a solvent includes mixing a waste solvent with a reactant to cause precipitation or complexing and forming a mixture; filtering the mixture using a nanofiltration membrane and forming a permeate; distilling or evaporating the permeate to form a concentrated solvent; condensing or cooling the concentrated solvent to below a boiling point of solvents in the concentrated solvent; and filtering the concentrated solvent using pervaporation to form a purified solvent. The system and method may be used to separate and purify a solvent without creating thermal degradation products.

The membrane filter includes a separation membrane constructed to reject the organic compound; and one or more support layers adjacent the separation membrane. A steam permeate including a second concentration of the organic compound is collected, where the second concentration is lower than the first.
