Techniques are disclosed for selecting one or more microphones on a remote speaker/microphone (RSM) assembly for input to an audio processing algorithm. An up orientation for the RSM is determined based on an embedded orientation sensor. For each microphone on the RSM, an up distance relative to the orientation sensor is determined based on a stored fixed mapping of microphone locations and current orientation of the orientation sensor, the microphone locations being fixed and known relative to the orientation sensor. Each microphone on the RSM is ranked from the uppermost to the lowermost. The uppermost microphone on the RSM assembly is then selected to serve as a voice input microphone while the microphone located furthest from the voice input microphone is selected to serve as a noise input microphone. A first audio input from the selected voice input microphone is then connected to an audio processing algorithm and a second audio input from the selected noise input microphone is connected to the audio processing algorithm.

Optimal microphone selection on a remote speaker/microphone (RSM) assembly

Techniques described herein utilize a system comprised of a cloud-based communication platform server (CPS), a plurality of fixed location wireless beacons within a geofenced area, and a fleet of user equipments (UEs). Each UE is capable of wireless communication with the CPS over one or more of a plurality of wireless RF networks. Additionally, each UE may also be configured to receive RF transmissions directly from the plurality of fixed location wireless beacons. The system may implement a method for determining areas of poor wireless connectivity within the geofenced area. The method may comprise determining whether a UE has an active connection with the CPS via at least one of the plurality of wireless RF networks. When the UE does not have an active connection with the CPS via any of the wireless RF networks, it may self-determine its location within the geofenced area and store its self-determined location. The UE may repeat the location self-determining and location storing steps on a periodic basis until the UE has re-established an active connection with the CPS. Once the UE has re-connected to the CPS, it may then upload the set of stored self-determined location data to the CPS that was acquired while the UE was disconnected from the CPS.

Techniques for identifying wireless connectivity deadspots in a geofenced area

Techniques are disclosed for determining a location of a mobile device within a dead zone. One example computing system includes a non-transitory computer-readable medium; and a processor in communication with the non-transitory computer-readable medium, the processor configured to execute instructions stored in the non-transitory computer-readable medium to: receive a service request from a communication device, the service request comprising one or more signal strength readings associated with a current position of the communication device; determine, using a trained machine learning model, the current position corresponds to a fingerprint within a location map based on the one or more signal strength readings; and output a control signal configured to cause the communication device to alter a state of the communication device based on location information associated with the fingerprint, wherein the state of the communication device comprises a source or type of network connectivity.

Positioning techniques for dead zones using beacons

Techniques are disclosed for responding to a pre-recorded inbound voice message in a communication system that includes communication devices and a communication server. In a first communication device, a pre-recorded inbound voice message is received from a sender communication device via a communication server. A reply mode is set for a response voice message from a plurality of reply modes. The response voice message is recorded and a reply mode flag is inserted into a message header. The response voice message is then sent to the communication server where it determines the reply mode. When the reply mode is reply to all, the response voice message is sent to the sender communication device and other recipient communication devices. When the reply mode is reply to sender, a direct channel communication link is established between the first communication device and the sender communication device and the response voice message is sent directly to the sender communication device.

Techniques for responding to inbound voice messages in a communication system

Techniques are disclosed for managing inbound voice messages in a communication system that includes communication devices and a communication server. A communication device receives an inbound voice message that is associated with a voice message temporal mode that includes a message mode and a live mode. The communication device may then determine the voice message temporal mode for the inbound voice message as well as a device temporal mode associated with the receiving communication device. The device temporal mode also includes a message mode and a live mode. When the voice message temporal mode is determined to be message mode, the communication device may provide a message received notification on the receiving communication device. When the device temporal mode is determined to be message mode, the communication device may provide a message received notification on the receiving communication device regardless of the voice message temporal mode. When the voice message temporal mode and device temporal mode are both determined to be live mode, the communication device may play the received inbound voice message back on the receiving communication device.

Techniques for managing inbound voice messages in a communication system

Techniques are disclosed for managing outbound voice messages in a communication system that includes communication devices and a communication server. A temporal mode of either live mode or message mode and a recipient mode of either group mode or direct mode are selected and set for an outbound voice message. Based on the selected settings for temporal mode and recipient mode the originating communication device records a voice message that is relayed to the communication server where it is distributed to other communication devices according to the rules or parameters associated with the temporal and recipient mode selected.

Techniques for managing outbound voice messages in a communication system

Techniques are disclosed for managing a panic mode for a communication device. The communication device may trigger a panic mode causing the communication device to emit an audible alert while simultaneously causing the communication device to capture any detected sound at a frequency below the audible alert. The communication device may also collect metadata including a date stamp, a time stamp, and a location that may be associated with any captured audio and stored locally or streamed to a communications server for storage. The communication device may also send a message to one or more other endpoints indicative of the communication device having engaged panic mode.

Panic mode management in a communication device

Various embodiments describe a multi-step process for determining whether the keyword has been spoken. The first tier uses an onboard digital signal processor (DSP) to process converted audio signals. If the DSP analysis cannot confirm the keyword due to noise in the signal, a second tier of processing may use an applications processor (AP) and a more stringent audio filter to try to verify the keyword. If the AP analysis cannot confirm the keyword, a third tier of processing may use server side processor and an even more stringent audio filter to try to verify the keyword. Certain signal to noise ratios (SNRs) of the detected and converted audio signal are used to decide when and if to try the second and third tier of processing.
