A low cost sealed electrical connector that incorporates multiple connection elements and is sealed against harsh environment with redundant seals. The connector is a harsh environment sealed electrical assembly that is assembled in-situ with a variety of end connector fittings for sealing. The modularity of the sealed connector puck type assembly enables mass manufacturing by injection molding or other mass production methods. The connector can either be mounted to a bulkhead or used in an inline cable assembly using a variety of end fittings. Multiple connector types are encompassed including various sizes of electrical conductors or a combination connector. The connector sealing material is chemical and harsh environment resistant and may include but are not limited to epoxy, urethane and silicone. The invention reduces the number of penetrations in a harsh environment system application thus reducing size, weight, and cost.

Modular harsh environment connector

A propulsion system for an aircraft may include two coaxial propellers to operate in two different flight conditions. Each propeller may be attached to a driveshaft via corresponding one-way devices that allow each propeller to be driven in one direction but spin freely in the other direction. A reversible motor may selectively rotate the driveshaft in one direction to cause one propeller to operate while the other spins freely. For example, one propeller may be operated for one flight condition (such as vertical lift) and the other propeller may be operated for another flight condition (such as horizontal flight). Another propulsion system may include a propeller, a one-way bearing, a motor, and a generator. The one-way bearing may allow the motor to drive the propeller in one direction and to spin freely in the other direction to drive the generator with incoming airflow during a gliding phase of flight.

Coaxial drive propulsion system for aerial vehicles, and associated systems and methods

A winch is employed for deploying a probe to a precise depth within a water column for making and recording physical measurement within such water column. More particularly, the winch rapidly unspools a line from an underway vessel, while maintaining minimal but constant line tension, as a probe, tethered to such line, descends within the water column in a 'near' free-fall to a predetermined depth and then stops. The line lacks means for communicating its depth to the winch. The probe achieves a predictable descent behavior, even though it is tethered by a line to a winch onboard an underway vessel of unknown velocity and in variable weather conditions. The predictable descent behavior is achieved by maintaining a minimal constant tension on the line within a narrow range. The descent behavior of a probe in 'near' free-fall has sufficient predictability to construct an algorithm to correlate descent time with depth. The predictability is sufficient to reduce the risk of collision between the probe and the water bottom to an acceptable level.
