A power saw includes a base plate, housing, and spring. The base plate is configured to move along a workpiece, and includes a pivot mount and a first retaining member defining an arcuate slot. The housing is configured to receive a cutting tool, includes a pivoting member and a second retaining member, and has a center-of-mass located between the pivot mount and first retaining member. The pivoting member is engaged with the pivot mount to pivotably mount the housing thereto. The second retaining member is received in the slot to guide a pivot of the housing. The spring is engaged between the base plate and housing, and is exerts a spring force acting against the weight of the housing such that a resultant force is sufficient to enable engagement of the cutting tool with the workpiece.

A miter saw for use with a miter saw stand includes a base having a first clamping surface, a second clamping surface, and a first actuator. The miter saw further includes a turntable rotatable in relation to the base and having a work piece support surface. The first actuator is movable between a first position and a second position. Methods of manufacturing a variety of circuit protection devices are provided as well as devices so manufactured. In an embodiment, a surface mount electrical device having a substrate and a pair of conductive electrodes connected to an electrical protection component for sensing current or voltage is provided. The method includes the steps of: (i) providing a substrate having a first surface and a second surface; creating a first and second aperture, plasma etching a through-hole, slot or bore through the substrate; (ii) depositing a conductive material on the substrate and through the apertures to form the electrodes, wherein the conductive material extends through the apertures and on the first and second surfaces of the substrate, respectively; and (iii) depositing the electrical protection component on the first surface of the substrate to electrically connect the electrodes.

Method for plasma etching to manufacture electrical devices having circuit protection

The invention is a fusible link-containing structure for an electrical fuse. The structure includes an metallic or other conductive element having a fusible link. The structure further includes at least one arc-quenching tab secured to the metallic element, and that tab may be secured to the metallic element at a position spaced apart from the fusible link. The tab or tabs are secured to the metallic element without rivets or other mechanical fasteners. For example, a lamination process may be used.

A surface-mount fuse for protecting a circuit, which includes a substrate having first and second surfaces, each surface having first, second, third, and fourth ends, the substrate also having first, second, third, and fourth sides. The fuse includes a metal strip attached to the first surface of the substrate with a layer of adhesive material, the layer of adhesive material being disposed between the metal strip and the first surface of the substrate, the metal strip having a first connection region, a second connection region, and a non-linear fuse link therebetween. The fuse further includes first and second wire leads, the first wire lead being conductively connected to the first connection region and horizontally projecting away from the first connection region, the second wire lead being conductively connected to the second connection region and horizontally projecting away from the second connection region, for connecting the fuse to the remainder of the circuit. Alternatively, the wire leads can include clip leads or other terminal leads. The fuse also includes a protective layer disposed on the fuse link. A method for making the fuse is also disclosed.
