A frame and patient support are provided, as well as surgical methods using the frame and patient support. The frame and patient support can be used to support and manipulate the patient prior to, during, and after surgery to articulate the patient's body to facilitate stabilization of the patient's spine. The frame and patient support can be configured for rotation about a rotational axis, and the frame and patient support can include a lower-leg-support, an upper-leg-support, a pelvic-support, a torso-support, and a head-and-arm support for supporting corresponding portions of the patient's body.

Frame and patient support, and surgical methods using same

A positioning frame and method for use thereof for supporting a patient to facilitate different surgical approaches to the spine is provided. The positioning frame includes a main support beam, first and second support structures, a torso-lift support, and a pelvic-tilt support. The main support beam has a first end, a second end, and a length extending between the first and second ends. The main support beam defines and is rotatable an axis of rotation relative to at least the first and second support structures to adjust the rotatable position of the patient support thereby. The torso-lift support is attached to the main support beam, and is configured to pivot to move the torso of the patient between an unlifted position and a lifted position. The pelvic-tilt support is also attached to the main support beam, and is configured to support and move the thighs and the lower legs of the patient to facilitate adjustment of the hips of the patient.

Surgical frame facilitating articulatable support for a patient during surgery and method for use thereof

A surgical positioning frame for supporting a patient includes a main beam having an axis of rotation relative to support structures. The main beam rotates the patient between a prone position and a lateral position. The main beam including a conforming main beam portion extending between the first and second support arms. The conforming main beam is preferably configured to allow a surgeon access to one lateral side of the patient and a surgical assistant access to the other lateral side of the patient with limited interference thereby.

Surgical frame including main beam for facilitating patient access

A surgical frame and method for use thereof is provided. The surgical frame is capable of reconfiguration before, during, or after surgery. The surgical frame includes a main beam that can be rotated, raised/lowered, and tilted upwardly/downwardly to afford positioning and repositioning of a patient supported thereon. The surgical frame also includes a reconfigurable upper leg support for supporting portions of the upper legs, the hips, and the lower back of the patient to facilitate positioning and repositioning there during surgery. The upper leg support via reconfiguration thereof can accommodate patients of different sizes, can provide flexure of the patient's lumbar spine to facilitate surgical access thereto, and can prevent unwanted torsion of a patient's spine during such reconfiguration.

Reconfigurable upper leg support for a surgical frame

A method for facilitating stabilization of a sacroiliac joint is provided. The method includes surgical and stabilization techniques for implanting bone anchors or fasteners such as a first bone screw, a second bone screw, and third bone screw in a pelvis traversing portions of a coxal bone and a sacrum, and extending through or adjacent at least a portion of a corresponding sacroiliac joint. The bone anchors or fasteners such as the first bone screw, the second bone screw, and the third bone screw can be inserted at different angles and locations to form a lattice structure that serves in securing the position of a coxal bone and a sacrum relative to one another to facilitate stabilization across a corresponding sacroiliac joint.

A method facilitates the treatment of the spine of a patient by providing simultaneous access through at least a first opening and a second opening formed in the patient. For example, the method can include the acts of positioning the patient on a surgical table, providing the first opening into a posterior portion of the patient, providing the second opening into a lateral portion of the patient, inserting a first device through the first opening into the patient to contact the spine in a first direction that is transverse to the coronal plane of the patient, and inserting a second device through the second opening into the patient to contact the spine in a second direction that is transverse to the sagittal plane of the patient, where the first and second openings are accessible simultaneously, and, when the first and second devises are inserted into the patient, the position of the patient is stationary with respect to a portion of the table.

A system including a range of motion, quality of sleep, overall, and control modules. The range of motion module, prior to a procedure being performed on a patient, determines a first range of motion score of the patient based on a first signal generated by a sensor. The quality of sleep module, prior to the procedure being performed on the patient, determines a first quality of sleep score or a first pain score based on the first signal. The overall module determines a combined score based on the first range of motion score and the first quality of sleep score or the first pain score. The control module compares the combined score to a predetermined threshold and predicts an outcome of the procedure based on the comparison. The control module, based on the combined score, determines whether to perform the procedure, adjust the procedure or refrain from performing the procedure.

The radiation-mitigation system can serve to intercept/block and mitigate at least some of the scatter of the electromagnetic radiation from the emitter.
