A system for determining communication channel characteristics includes a transmitter comprising a bit sequence generator and a frame processing and modulator unit, where the frame processing and modulator unit is configured to generate a transmission frame comprising an embedded bit sequence generated by the bit sequence generator and at least one embedded side channel field, the transmitter further configured to transmit the transmission frame over a communications channel, a receiver in communication with the transmitter over the communications channel and configured to receive the transmission frame, and a data processor, in communication with the receiver through a data processor interface, configured to receive the transmission frame from the receiver, the processor further configured to process the transmission frame to detect and analyze distortions in a waveform corresponding to the transmission frame generated during the transmission over the communications channel based on the embedded bit sequence and the at least one embedded side channel field.

System and methods for determining channel characteristics

Systems, methods, and apparatus for enhanced partial processing of satellite user data are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a disclosed method for processing satellite data comprises encoding with an outer encoder in a transmitting terminal, modulating with a transmit modulator in the transmitting terminal, demodulating with a satellite demodulator in a satellite, encoding with an inner encoder in the satellite, modulating with a satellite modulator in the satellite, demodulating with a receive demodulator in a receiving terminal, decoding with an inner decoder in the receiving terminal, and decoding with an outer decoder in the receiving terminal. In one or more embodiments, the outer encoder and/or the inner encoder is operable to perform forward error correction (FEC) encoding. In at least one embodiment, the outer decoder and/or the inner decoder is operable to perform FEC decoding.

Satellite communication system architecture for enhanced partial processing

Systems, methods, and apparatus for laser communications in super-geosynchronous Earth orbit are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the disclosed method involves transmitting, by at least one laser on at least one first satellite, at least one first transmit signal. The method further involves receiving, by at least one detector on at least one first satellite, at least one first receive signal. In one or more embodiments, at least one first satellite is in super-geosynchronous Earth orbit (S-GEO). In at least one embodiment, at least one first transmit signal and at least one first receive signal are laser signals and have a field of regard covering one hemisphere of the Earth.

In at least one embodiment, at least one first transmit signal and at least one first receive signal are laser signals. Further, the method involves adapting, by at least one first processor on at least one first satellite, at least one first transmit signal according to at least one atmospheric event.
