A flexible and economical data transmission pedestal having a cover section and a base section, with the base section comprising two asymmetrical parts, a front and a rear. Removing the cover and the front part allows full access to the connections between service lines and a cable. The three piece pedestal also allows any piece to be easily replaced if damaged or a whole new pedestal may easily be placed around cable and service line connections on a mounting plate, all without interrupting customer service.

A data transmission pedestal housing having a service line passage is disclosed. The passage is structured to have a gap allowing service lines to pass into and out of the service line passage. An extruded gap closure element is provided for sliding engagement with walls of the passage so as to close and open the gap. When the gap is opened, a service line may pass out of the passage through the gap thereby allowing the pedestal housing to be removed and replaced without disconnecting the service lines from terminal blocks that connect to a cable.

Data transmission pedestal with internal service line passage

An extension housing for a data transmission pedestal is disclosed. The extension has an upper portion essentially identical to the upper portion of a base of a pedestal and a lower portion essentially identical to the lower portion of a cover section of a pedestal. The extension is simple and inexpensive and can be used singly or in multiple quantities depending upon the pedestal height to be achieved. The use of extensions alleviates inventory of different size pedestals and allows quick and easy height adjustments in the field.

A grounding bracket for use in an electrical equipment pedestal is structured from stamped and formed sheet metal member having a generally U-shaped portion with two opposed ends. A pair of mounting ears extend laterally, each from an end of the U-shaped portion. A support portion extends laterally from a bight portion of the U-shaped portion and a bar extends at an angle from the support portion so as to be offset from the U-shaped portion and to lie in a plane which is substantially parallel to a plane containing the ears. By this arrangement, the bracket can be readily bolted to a universal mounting plate and provide for single-point grounding connections either to the front or rear of the bracket.

A latching mechanism for a pedestal closure assembly has a pair of substantially channel-shaped slots, each slot having two arms, a flanged base and first and second ends. Each flanged base has a cam-like edge and is connected to the second end of each respective slot. The cam-like edge interconnects the upper and lower surfaces of the flanged base. A pair of legs adapted to be received by each slot are also included in the claimed latching mechanism. Each leg has a limiting edge and includes an end portion adapted to limit the motion of the legs when they are received in the respective slots. At least one flexible latch arm adapted to engage the flanged base of at least one of the slots is connected to one of the legs. Each latch arm includes a finger element beyond the end portion of the limiting edge of the leg. The finger element includes an engagement portion which abuts the lower surface of the flanged base of the leg when the leg is received in its respective slot. The finger element has a cam-follower surface which bears against the cam-like edge of the slot which flexes the latch arm allowing the engagement portion to move beyond the cam-like edge of the flanged base of the slot so that the latch arm engages the flanged base. Thus, the slot is configured and dimensioned to slidingly receive each leg. The latching mechanism and the pedestal closure assembly can be constructed of non-metallic material. Each leg of the latching mechanism can contain a spacer bead and a transverse flange, each flexible latch arm can include an integral lip, and each slot can contain a guide rail. All of these are included to keep the legs more firmly secured in the slots when the latching mechanism is engaged. Additionally, the pedestal closure assembly can have a service wire passageway with a channel slot which allows the internal equipment to be worked on without having to interrupt service and without having to unearth the lower housing section.

Latching mechanism for mounting plate of pedestal closure assembly

A pedestal closure assembly having a housing that defines an enclosed interior space and includes two side walls, a front wall, a rear wall, an upper portion and a lower portion. A mounting plate is supported by the housing in the interior space and serves to support electronic interconnection blocks. A grounding element to enable grounding of electrical equipment connected to any electronic interconnection block is also attached to the mounting plate. The lower portion of the housing has a scoop-shaped structure and a step structure to allow substantially vertically aligned installation and enhanced anchoring in a support medium such as earth, concrete and the like. The step portion may be formed on either the front wall or rear wall of the lower portion of the housing. The housing, mounting plate scoop-shaped structure and step structure is constructed of non-metallic material, such as high density polyethylene, or HDPE.

Pedestal closure assembly

A pedestal closure assembly has an upper housing section and a separate lower housing section, each of which include front walls, rear walls, and two side walls. These housing sections are structured and dimensioned for telescoping nesting with first and second positive locking mechanisms for a friction fit. These housing sections when locked together form an integral housing structure which has an interior space for protectively accommodating electrical, power supply or telecommunications equipment. This housing structure may be constructed of non-metallic material. The first positive locking mechanism and second locking mechanism may be positioned across from each other on opposite side walls of the housing sections, and, even more preferably, may be aligned diagonally from each other on opposite side walls of the housing sections. The lower housing section may include raised ribs to enhance the friction fit of the assembled housing sections.

Pedestal closure assembly with locking mechanism

A flood protection pedestal protects telecommunications equipment and the like retained therein from water damage during flood conditions in the surrounding environment. The flood protection pedestal includes a base assembly, a structural cover assembly removably attached to the base assembly for covering the telecommunications equipment, and an air entrapping arrangement inside the cover assembly over the telecommunications equipment. The air entrapping arrangement may be either a thin walled unitary dome member integrally formed of a plastics material or a coating applied to the interior of the cover assembly. A downwardly oriented opening is formed in the dome member for receiving telecommunications equipment. A body of air is entrapped within the cover assembly when flood waters rise above a given level for protecting the telecommunications equipment from exposure to the flood waters.
