Test sensors, methods, and systems are described that include a first electrode pair having either two active electrodes or an inactive working electrode paired with an active counter electrode. These active electrodes are different than having an electron transfer mediator on an inactive electrode because in addition to the structural differences between an electrode directly in contact with the conductors of the test sensor verses a reagent coating, there are chemical and functional differences. The active electrodes are formed from an electrode core material including an element that loses or acquires electrons during the analysis and directly participates in the electrochemical reaction of the sample. As the active electrodes are insoluble in the sample during the analysis, an electrochemically stable potential is provided by the active electrodes that can reliably operate at higher operating potentials than conventional electron transfer mediator reagents coated on an inactive electrode.

Physical characteristic determination of a biological sample

A method of forming a kit containing multiple dissolvable unit dose constructs includes providing at least one muco-adhesive composition comprising a polymer matrix, the polymer matrix comprising a water soluble polymer, an active ingredient and a liquid carrier; forming a plurality of dissolvable thin film unit dose constructs by depositing the at least one composition onto a substrate wherein at least two adjacent dissolvable thin film unit dose constructs are formed having a pre-determined different identifiable physical characteristic with respect to the other as a result of the depositing; and packaging the plurality of dissolvable thin films in a single package to form a kit.

Production of unit dose constructs

Dissolvable unit dose constructs and their method of manufacture are disclosed in which the unit dose constructs are formed of a composition including a polymer matrix that includes a water soluble polymer, active ingredient, and a liquid carrier. The composition is deposited directly, such as by stenciling, to form individual unit doses without the need to cut and convert long, continuous rolls of film.

An electrochemical test sensor adapted to assist in determining the concentration of analyte in a fluid sample is disclosed. The sensor comprises a base that assists in forming an opening for introducing the fluid sample, a working electrode being coupled to the base, and a counter electrode being coupled to the base, the counter electrode and the working electrode being adapted to be in electrical communication with a detector of electrical current, and a sub-element being coupled to the base. A major portion of the counter electrode is located downstream relative to the opening and at least a portion of the working electrode. The sub-element is located upstream relative to the working electrode such that when electrical communication occurs between only the sub-element and the working electrode there is insufficient flow of electrical current through the detector to determine the concentration of the analyte in the fluid sample.

Electrochemical-sensor design

An electrochemical sensor includes a dielectric substrate and a conductive layer formed on a surface of the substrate. The conductive layer includes a working electrode, an electrode lead and a connecting arm connecting the working electrode to the electrode lead. A dielectric layer is positioned over the conductive layer. The dielectric layer has an aperture exposing the working electrode and a portion of the connecting arm. The working electrode, electrode lead and connecting arm may be formed by laser ablation technique to provide precise working electrode sensor parameters.

Electrochemical sensor with controlled variation of working electrode

A test system for taking a sample of a constituent on a surface utilizing a fluid source includes a transition region having a capillary layer for delivering a fluid from said fluid source, an extraction region having a collection material in contact with said surface, and a collection region having a sensor reservoir therein for collecting the fluid for analysis.

Test patch system and method

Disclosed is an electrochemical sensor for the determination of analytes in body fluids, e.g. glucose in blood. The sensor involves a non-conductive base which provides a flow path for the body fluid with the base having a working and counter electrode on its surface which are in electrical communication with a detector of current. The base and a cover therefore provide a capillary space containing the electrodes into which the body fluid is drawn by capillary action. The counter electrode has a sub-element which contains an electroactive material and is configured in the system (sensor and meter) to provide an error signal when insufficient body fluid is drawn into the capillary.

Electrochemical test sensor

An improved electrochemical sensor having a base bearing a working and counter electrode which provides a flow path for a fluid test sample. The working and counter electrodes are configured so that a major portion of the counter electrode is located downstream on the flow path from the working electrode with the exception of a small sub-element of the counter electrode which is in electrical communication with the primary portion of the counter electrode and located upstream of the working electrode. This configuration enables the sensor when the capillary space is incompletely filled with test fluid.

An electrochemical sensor is provided comprised of a thin sheet or film having at least one through-hole provided therein. The thin sheet or film has first and second opposing surfaces, at least a portion of the opposing surfaces being coated with a conductive coating which extends into the at least one through-hole, each conductive coating extending partially into the at least one through-hole from each opposing surface whereby each conductive coating terminates within the at least one through-hole at a point spaced from the terminus of the opposing conductive coating which extends into the at least one through-hole, whereby the conductive coatings in the at least one through-hole are separated by a non-conductive interior surface of the at least one through-hole.

Small volume electrochemical sensor

Disclosed is an electrochemical sensor for detecting the concentration of an analyte such as glucose in a fluid test sample. The sensor involves a base as flow path for the fluid test sample having a working and counter electrode on its surface. The base is mated with a cover to form a capillary space to capture the fluid and the counter electrode has a sub-element located upstream in the flow path. When there is detected electrical communication only between the sub-element and the working electrode the meter, with which the sensor is in electrical communication senses that the capillary space has not completely filled with test fluid.

A method and apparatus are provided for calibrating a sensor for determination of analyte concentration. The meter includes a sensor for receiving a user sample to be measured and a processor for performing a predefined test sequence for measuring a predefined parameter value. A memory can be coupled to the processor for storing predefined parameter data values. A calibration code is associated with the sensor and read by the processor before the user sample to be measured is received. The calibration code is used in measuring the predefined parameter data value to compensate for different sensor characteristics.
