Methods of forming a desired geometry at a location on a superalloy part are disclosed. The method may include directing particles of a powder mixture including a low melt temperature superalloy powder and a high melt temperature superalloy powder to the location on the superalloy part at a velocity sufficient to cause the superalloy powders to deform and to form a mechanical bond but not a metallurgical bond to the superalloy part. The directing of particles continues until the desired geometry is formed. Heat is applied to the powder mixture on the repair location. The heat causes the low melt temperature superalloy powder to melt, creating the metallurgical bonding at the location. Another method uses the same directing to form a preform for repairing the location on the part. The low melt temperature superalloy powder melts at less than 1287&#xb0; C., and the high melt temperature superalloy powder melts at greater than 1287&#xb0; C.

Methods of forming desired geometry on superalloy part using powder mixture of low and high melt temperature superalloys

Compositions, and articles and methods for forming articles which include said compositions, are disclosed. The compositions include, by weight percent, about 13.7% to about 14.3% chromium (Cr), about 9.0% to about 9.9% cobalt (Co), about 4.0% to about 5.25% aluminum (Al), about 0.5% to about 3.0% titanium (Ti), about 4.5% to about 5.0% tungsten (W), about 1.4% to about 1.7% molybdenum (Mo), about 3.25% to about 3.75% niobium (Nb), about 0.08% to about 0.12% carbon (C), about 0.005% to about 0.04% zirconium (Zr), about 0.010% to about 0.014% boron (B), and balance nickel (Ni) and incidental impurities.

Compositions, articles and methods for forming the same

A process of modifying a passage in a component is provided. The process includes inserting a first material into the passage; blocking at least one end of the passage; inserting an elongated member into the passage through the first material; heat treating the passage, the first material, and the elongated member to form a solid interior in component; and machining through the solid interior to form a modified passage in the component.

Braze method to modify a passage

A method for repairing a part and the resulting is disclosed. The method includes positioning a plug having an inner braze element coupled thereto into a cavity defined by an internal surface of a component. The cavity has a circular cross-section at the external surface of the component. The plug completely fills the circular cross-section and the inner braze element is within the cavity. A braze paste is positioned at least partially around the plug at the external surface. The component is positioned such that the inner braze element is above the plug. The component is subjected to a thermal cycle to melt the inner braze element around the plug, completely sealing the cavity by forming a metallurgical bond with the plug and the internal surface of the component. During the thermal cycle the braze paste is melted to form a metallurgical bond with the plug and external surface.

Superalloy part and method of processing

A system includes a gas turbine component having a recessed portion with a recessed surface in a hard-to-weld (HTW) material. The system includes a plate disposed over the recessed portion. The plate has an easy-to-weld (ETW) material. The plate has an outer surface and an inner surface, and the inner surface faces the recessed portion. The system includes a braze material disposed within the recessed portion between the recessed surface and the inner surface of the plate. The braze material is configured to bond the recessed surface of the recessed portion with the inner surface of the plate when the braze material is heated to a brazing temperature. The system includes a filler material disposed on the outer surface of the plate disposed over the recessed portion. Application of the filler material to the outer surface of the plate is configured to heat the braze material to the brazing temperature.

Weld-brazing techniques

A composition includes the constituents, in approximate weight percentages: Chromium 15-17; Silicon 2.5-3.5; Cobalt 6.0-8.0; Aluminum 1.0-2.0; Tantalum 1.5-2.5; Boron 1.5-2.5; Yttrium 0.015-0.025; Nickel balance; and incidental impurities.

Braze composition and process of using

A nickel-based superalloy composition including by weight percent: Cobalt 7.5; Chromium 9.75; Aluminum 5.45; Titanium 1.0; Niobium 3.5; Tungsten 6.0; Molybdenum 1.5; Carbon 0.08; Hafnium 0.15; Boron 0.01; and Nickel 65.0; and incidental impurities.

Nickel-based superalloys

A closure element for an internal passage in a component, and a related method and turbine blade or nozzle are disclosed. The closure element includes a spherical body made of a first superalloy, and a plurality of extensions extending from a surface of the spherical body. The plurality of extensions made of the same, similar or different material other than the first superalloy. Subjecting the component to at least one thermal cycle causes a braze material to form a metallurgical bond with the spherical body, the plurality of extensions and the passage wall to seal the internal passage.

A hybrid article is disclosed including a sintered coating disposed on and circumscribing the lateral surface of a core having a core material and a greater density than the sintered coating. The sintered coating includes more than about 95% up to about 99.5% of a first metallic particulate material including a first melting point, and from about 0.5% up to about 5% of a second metallic particulate material having a second melting point lower than the first melting point. A method for forming the hybrid article is disclosed including disposing the core in a die, introducing a slurry having the metallic particulate materials into a gap between the lateral surface and the die, and sintering the slurry. A method for welding a workpiece is disclosed including the hybrid article serving as a weld filler.

A composition of matter includes from about 16 to about 20 wt % chromium, greater than 6 to about 10 wt % aluminum, from about 2 to about 10 wt % iron, less than about 0.04 wt % yttrium, less than about 12 wt % cobalt, less than about 1.0 wt % manganese, less than about 1.0 wt % molybdenum, less than about 1.0 wt % silicon, less than about 0.25 wt % carbon, about 0.03 wt % boron, less than about 1.0 wt % tungsten, less than about 1.0 wt % tantalum, about 0.5 wt % titanium, about 0.5 wt % hafnium, about 0.5 wt % rhenium, about 0.4 wt % lanthanide elements, and the balance being nickel and incidental impurities. This nickel-based superalloy composition may be used in superalloy articles, such as a blade, nozzle, a shroud, a splash plate, a squealer tip of the blade, and a combustor of a gas turbine engine.

Nickel-based superalloy and articles

A method of welding using a weld filler additive and a weld filler additive are provided. The method includes the step of welding the component with a filler additive comprising a sufficient amount of each of W, Co, Cr, Al, Ti, Mo, Fe, B, C, Nb, and Ni, the component including a hard-to-weld base alloy. The method further includes the step of forming an easy-to-weld target alloy on a surface of the component from the welding.

Casting methods and articles are disclosed wherein a molten first material is introduced into a mold which distributes the first material to form a first region of the article where it is subjected to a first condition suitable for growing a first grain structure, forming the first region of the article. A molten second material, compositionally distinct from the first material, is introduced into the mold to form a second region of the article. A hybridized material is formed by intermixing a first portion of the second material with the second portion of the first material. A second portion of the second material is subjected to a second condition suitable for growing a second grain structure distinct from the first grain structure, forming the second region of the article. The first region and the second region are integrally formed as a single, continuous article with a hybridized region formed between.

Casting methods and articles

An article and a method for forming the article are disclosed. The article comprising a composition, wherein the composition comprises, by weight percent, about 13.7% to about 14.3% chromium (Cr), about 9.0% to about 10.0% cobalt (Co), about 3.5% to about 3.9% aluminum (Al), about 3.4% to about 3.8% titanium (Ti), about 4.0% to about 4.4% tungsten (W), about 1.4% to about 1.7% molybdenum (Mo), about 1.55% to about 1.75% niobium (Nb), about 0.08% to about 0.12% carbon (C), about 0.005% to about 0.040% zirconium (Zr), about 0.010% to about 0.014% boron (B), and balance nickel (Ni) and incidental impurities. The composition is substantially free of tantalum (Ta) and includes a microstructure substantially devoid of Eta phase.
