Systems and methods for reducing total and/or color page counts are provided. The systems include a memory, including a print queue, and one or more processors. The processors are programmed to receive a print job. The print job includes a document formatted according to a page description language (PDL). The processors are further programmed to apply one or more formatting fixes to the document and transfer the print job to the print queue. The formatting fixes include at least one of image fitting, text fitting and table fitting.

Automated print job modification for reduced total and color page counts

A method starts when a print job is received from a workstation. The print job includes user printing options and an identification of an initial printer. The method ranks the abilities of the available printers to process the print job to identify the best printer for the print job according to, among other items, printer proximity. If the initial printer identification creates a print policy violation, the method presents a question/statement to the workstation (to the user through the workstation) regarding whether the print job should be redirected to the best printer and provides an automated resubmit option at the workstation. If the resubmit option is activated, the method automatically submits the print job to a different available printer, without requiring the user to manually input the printing options.

Resubmission to alternate printers to help efficient printing and space planning

A method and system for automatically creating and recommending a set of optimal rules based on a desired print criterion. A print governance application can be configured with respect to a rendering server to analyze one or more rendering jobs submitted within a specified time period by considering each rendering job attributes in order to collect a rendering data. A desired print criterion can be entered by an administrator in order to manage the rendering job behavior. The collected rendering data can be analyzed to dynamically create the set of optimal rules by a rules engine in order to achieve a desired level of reduction with respect to each user based on the desired print criterion. The rules can be accepted by default and/or presented to the user for acceptance with an equated level of reduction.

Method and system for automatically recommending rules based on desired print criteria

An exemplary method or device determines which print drivers are being used within a printing environment. The method or device identifies a plurality of print queues. Each of the print queues is associated with one of the print drivers. The method or device submits a plurality of test documents to each of the print queues to produce a plurality of page description language (PDL) files. The method or device identifies print drivers that produce different types of PDL files as being non-compatible. If corresponding PDL files produced by different ones of the print drivers in response to the test documents contain all identical header commands (in any order) the method or device identifies the different ones of the print drivers as being compatible. If corresponding PDL files produced by different ones of the print drivers in response to the test documents do not contain all identical header commands, the method or device identifies the different ones of the print drivers as being non-compatible. The method or device produces a compatibility matrix listing which of the print drivers are non-compatible and which of the print drivers are compatible.

A method and system suitable for use with a plurality of multifunction devices (MFDs) for managing one or more print queues associated with the plurality of MFDs, the system including a user interface application for permitting users to electronically communicate with a queue managing service (QMS); wherein the QMS automatically detects, identifies, and analyzes the one or more print queues associated with the plurality of MFDs in order to provide a status of the plurality of MFDs and continuously notify the users of the updates relating to the one or more print queues.
