A code coverage tool tests a program under test that executes on a processor of an information handling system (IHS). The code coverage tool may apportion the program under test into code portions of interest that exhibit a user-specified granularity level. A user may request that the code coverage tool change the granularity level of the code portions of interest in real time. The code coverage tool conducts testing of the code portions of interest according to test criteria that the user may specify in real time. The code coverage tool may provide test results for each of the code portions of interest in real time. The code coverage tool may also provide a summary report after providing real time results for the code portions of interest. The user may specify that the code coverage tool generate real time test results in the form of sensory output, for example auditory output or visual output, for each of the code portions of interest. The code coverage tool may alter the type of sensory output in real time at the request of the user.

A method, computer program product, and data processing system for managing a input/output buffer cache for prevention of deadlocks are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, automatic buffer cache resizing is performed whenever the number of free buffers in the buffer cache diminishes to below a pre-defined threshold. This resizing adds a pre-defined number of additional buffers to the buffer cache, up to a pre-defined absolute maximum buffer cache size. To prevent deadlocks, an absolute minimum number of free buffers are reserved to ensure that sufficient free buffers for performing a buffer cache resize are always available. In the event that the buffer cache becomes congested and cannot be resized further, threads whose buffer demands cannot be immediately satisfied are blocked until sufficient free buffers become available.

Buffer cache management to prevent deadlocks

A method, system, device, and article of manufacture for use in a computer memory system utilizing multiple page types, for handling a memory resource request. In a accordance with the method of the invention, a request is received for allocation of pages having a first page type. The first page type has a specified allocation limit. A determination is made in response to the page allocation request of whether the number of allocated pages of the first page type exceeds or is below the allocation limit. In response to determining that the number of allocated pages of said first page type is below the allocation limit, the virtual memory manager enables allocation of pages for the request to exceed the allocation limit.
