A cable card assembly includes a circuit card having mating conductors at a mating end for mating with a mating electrical connector and circuit conductors at s cable end. The cable card assembly includes cables having signal conductors and cable shields. The cable card assembly includes a contact assembly coupled to the circuit card and coupled to the cables and a contact holder holding signal contacts. Each signal contact includes a base tab terminated to the corresponding circuit conductor and a mating tab terminated to the corresponding signal conductor. The cable card assembly includes a ground bus separate and discrete from the contact assembly and coupled to the contact assembly. The ground bus is electrically connected to the cable shields to electrically connect the cable shields of the cables.

Contact assembly for a cable card assembly of an electrical connector

A pluggable module includes an outer housing having a cavity between an upper wall and a lower wall. A circuit card is received in the cavity having a card edge configured to be received in a card slot of a communication connector. A circuit card holder engages the circuit card and holds the circuit card in the cavity of the outer housing. The circuit card holder includes a locating fin at a top of the circuit card holder. The locating fin has a sacrificial upper edge configured to engage the outer housing to locate the circuit card holder and the circuit card in the cavity. The sacrificial upper edge is deformed when engaging the outer housing to press the circuit card holder and the circuit card in a downward biasing direction.

Circuit card locating features for pluggable module

A communication system includes a first circuit card assembly having a first PCB and a first electrical connector with first contacts and a second circuit card assembly having a second PCB and a second electrical connector with second contacts. At least one of the PCBs include a slot configured to receive the other PCB when mated in a board mating direction. The first electrical connector is mated to the second electrical connector in a connector mating direction perpendicular to the board mating direction. The first contacts are mated to the second contacts in a contact mating direction as the first PCB and the second PCB are mated in the board mating direction and as the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are mated in the connector mating direction. The contact mating direction is non-parallel to the board mating axis and non-parallel to the connector mating axis.

Circuit card assemblies for a communication system

A circuit card assembly for a communication system includes a PCB having a slot receiving a second PCB of a second circuit card assembly in a board loading direction. An electrical connector is mounted to the PCB having a receptacle housing and a mating housing movable within the receptacle housing in a connector loading direction along a connector loading axis parallel to the board loading direction. The mating housing is movable in the receptacle housing in a connector mating direction along a connector mating axis perpendicular to the connector loading axis. Contacts of the electrical connector are mated with contacts of the second electrical connector in a contact mating direction parallel to the connector mating axis.

A communication system includes first and second circuit card assemblies mated such that first and second PCBs move relative to each other along a board mating axis parallel to a slot in the first PCB with the first PCB oriented perpendicular to the second PCB and with first and second mating ends of first and second electrical connectors oriented parallel to the board mating axis. The first and second circuit card assemblies are mated such that the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector move relative to each other along a connector mating axis perpendicular to the board mating axis. First mating interfaces of first contacts are mated to second mating interfaces of second contacts in a contact mating direction non-parallel to the board mating axis and non-parallel to the connector mating axis.

An electrical connector for a circuit card assembly including a PCB includes a mating housing having a mating end movable relative to the PCB and contact modules coupled to the mating housing including signal contacts having a mating conductor, a mounting conductor and a flexible conductor. The flexible conductor is flexible to allow relative movement of the mating conductor relative to the mounting conductor. The flexible conductor has a bent portion changing shape. The contact modules have ground contacts providing electrical shielding for the signal contacts. The ground contacts include covers extending along and providing shielding along at least one side of the bent portion of the corresponding signal contact.

Electrical connector for a circuit card assembly of a communication system

An electrical connector assembly includes a module stack, a front housing, and a spring member. The module stack includes multiple contact modules disposed side by side. The module stack includes multiple signal contacts that project beyond a front side thereof. The front housing is mechanically coupled to the module stack at the front side and surrounds the signal contacts. The front housing defines cavities that receive mating contacts of a mating connector to engage the signal contacts. The front housing is movable relative to the module stack along a longitudinal axis of the electrical connector assembly between a retracted position and an extended position. The spring member is held between the module stack and the front housing. The spring member engages the module stack and the front housing to bias the front housing towards the extended position.

Electrical connector assembly with impedance control at mating interface

Electrical connector including a connector housing having a front side that faces along a mating axis and contact passages that open to the front side. The contact passages are configured to receive corresponding ground shields of a system connector during a mating operation. The electrical connector also includes signal contacts that are coupled to the connector housing and configured to engage corresponding contacts of the system connector. The electrical connector also includes a grounding lattice that is held by the connector housing. The grounding lattice includes a support frame and lattice springs that are interconnected by the support frame. The support frame extends generally transverse to the mating axis. The lattice springs are positioned to engage the ground shields of the system connector as the ground shields are inserted into the corresponding contact passages of the connector housing.

An electrical assembly includes a first lead, a second lead, and an electrical component extending from a first end to a second end. A first non-electrically conductive adhesive member mechanically connects the first lead to the first end of the electrical component. A second non-electrically conductive adhesive member mechanically connects the second lead to the second end of the electrical component. A first electrically conductive adhesive member electrically connects the first lead to the first end of the electrical component. A second electrically conductive adhesive member electrically connects the second lead to the second end of the electrical component.

Electrical assembly

A connector and cable assembly is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board. The assembly includes a ribbon cable having an end that includes an electrical conductor. The assembly also includes an electrical connector that includes a dielectric body comprising a circuit side, a cable side that is opposite the circuit side, and a contact opening that extends through the body. The electrical connector also includes an electrical contact having a cable segment and a tail extending from the cable segment. The electrical contact is held within the contact opening such that at least a portion of the cable segment extends along the cable side of the body and at least a portion of the tail projects from the circuit side of the body. The cable segment is electrically connected to the electrical conductor of the ribbon cable. The tail is configured to be separably mated with the printed circuit board.

Electrical connector for mounting a ribbon cable on a printed circuit board

A bridge connector configured to electrically and mechanically couple adjacent circuit boards. The connector includes a connector housing that has a mating side configured to interface with board surfaces of adjacent circuit boards when mounted thereon. The housing includes a contact-receiving slot that at least partially defines a restricted space. The connector also includes a bridge contact that is held within the slot and the restricted space. The bridge contact has a pair of contact ends that are spaced apart from each other and project from the mating side. The contact ends are inserted into corresponding through-holes of the adjacent circuit boards when the housing is mounted thereon. The bridge contact is sized and shaped relative to the restricted space to float within the slot such that the bridge contact at least one of shifts and pivots therein.

Bridge connectors and circuit board assemblies including the same

A compliant pin is configured to be press-fit into a cavity of at least one of a connector assembly and a substrate to retain the pin in the cavity. The pin includes a neck, a plurality of compliant beams, and an insertion tip. The neck interconnects the pin with the connector assembly. The beams are configured to engage an inner surface of the cavity to retain the pin in the cavity. The beams are arranged side-to-side and project along a longitudinal plane in a loading direction. The beams have arcuate portions that are arched in different directions transverse to the longitudinal plane. The arcuate portions are shaped to deflect toward the longitudinal plane without substantially engaging one another. The insertion tip interconnects the ends of the beams.

Compliant pin for retaining and electrically connecting a shield with a connector assembly

An electrical contact configured to engage an electrical component. The contact includes a compressive body that is configured to be press-fit into a hole of the electrical component. The body includes a center portion and a pair of opposing arcuate arms that extend along a central axis. The arcuate arms project from the center portion to respective end portions and are configured to bend toward each other when inserted into the hole. The arcuate arms form a transition region and a compliant region of the body where the transition region engages the hole before the compliant region. The end portions of the transition region have a first arcuate path and the end portions of the compliant region have a second arcuate path. The second arcuate path has a greater radius of curvature than the first arcuate path before the body is inserted into the hole.
