Indicating to a receiver node in a network that the receiver node should begin tracking signal to noise ratio (SNR) of a received signal for a new power and rate (PAR) interval for data sent from a transmitter node. A method includes determining that a new PAR interval is beginning. The method further includes adding an identifier to a data block. The identifier corresponds to the new PAR interval. The method further includes sending the data block from the transmitter node to the receiver node, where the receiver node will use the identifier to determine that a new tracking interval of SNR should be performed for the data block and subsequent data blocks having the identifier.

Deterministic power and rate control

Compensating for antenna gain losses due to attitude changes of a mobile local node in a network. A method includes at the local node, identifying an attitude change of the local node. As a result of identifying the attitude change of the local node, the method includes increasing a target SNR of forward data directed to one or more remote nodes by a boost value. As a result of identifying the attitude change of the local node, the method includes causing the remote node to adjust at least one of power or rate to compensate for the attitude change for subsequent reverse data sent from the remote node to the local node.

Proactive power and rate control algorithm for dynamic platforms in a mesh network

A communications system may include mobile communications nodes operating according to a current topology and reconfigurable to a new topology. Each mobile communications node may include a wireless transceiver, and a controller configured to transmit spectral performance data to adjacent nodes and receive spectral performance data from the adjacent nodes. The controller may identify potential topologies for the adjacent nodes based on the spectral performance data, select a subset of potential topologies from among the potential topologies, generate a respective performance score for each potential topology of the subset of potential topologies, and switch to a new topology from among the subset of potential topologies based upon the performance scores.

Communications system reconfigurable to different topologies and associated methods

Joining subnets in mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) environment. A method includes, based on SNR, power and data rate information between a first gateway node for a first subnet and a second gateway node for a second subnet, determining a rate at which the first and the second subnets can connect if nodes in the first subnet reduce signal transmit rate to a predetermined level. The method further includes as a result of determining that the determined rate meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold, then joining the first and second subnets by joining the first and second subnets via the first and second gateway nodes and causing nodes in the first subnet to reduce signal transmit rate to the predetermined level.

Gateway link management between disjoint subnetworks in a CDMA MANET

Determining maximum transmit power by a local node. A method includes identifying one-hop neighbor nodes of the local node in the mesh network. One or more threshold maximum changes in interference caused by the local node increasing its transmit power for each of the one-hop neighbor nodes of the local node are identified. A plurality of power change values are identified. Each power change value in the plurality of power change values corresponds to a power change at the local node that would cause one of the threshold maximum changes in interference to occur at a corresponding one-hop neighbor node of the local node. A lowest power change value from among the plurality of power change values is identified. As a result, power transmitted by the local node is increased, while limiting an increase in power transmitted by the local node to no more than the lowest power change value.

Conscientious power and rate adaptation in a CDMA manet

Sending network data. A method includes transmitting data on a communication link, in an environment. A network control overhead portion of the data is allocated to network control overhead data packets for controlling how data is transmitted on the communication link. A user data portion of the data is allocated to user data packets for transmitting data between users of nodes on the communication link. A change in data capacity of the communication link is identified. As a result, a change is made in the network control overhead portion of the data, changing at least one of frequency of network control overhead data packets or size of network control overhead data packets to attempt to maintain a predetermined proportion factor for the network control overhead portion as compared to the user data portion. The network control overhead portion of the data is transmitted according to the change.

Scalable network overhead for contested environments

Sending data on a network based on limiting the propagation of data based on a distance between a sender of the data and one or more receivers of the data. A method includes determining a maximum distance that a message should travel in a network from a sender to a receiver. The method further includes configuring a distance property or distance proxy property conforming with the determined distance. The method further includes sending the message by transmitting the message in a fashion that causes the message to be carried on the network in compliance with the configured distance property or distance proxy property.

Regioncast traffic delivery

Transmitting a probe signal. A method includes transmitting a signal, having a predetermined total power, during a transmit cycle. The signal has a traffic channel transmitting user data and a probe channel to locate new nodes to add to the network. The transmit channel uses a first portion of the total power and the probe channel uses a second portion of the total power. The method further includes performing a probe cycle by lowering the power in the first portion of the total power and raising the power in the second portion of the total power, but maintaining the total power at the same level as the total power during the transmit cycle. The method further includes, after the probe cycle, raising the power in the first portion of the total power and lowering the power in the second portion of the total power.

Dynamic multi-channel power management for neighbor discovery

Embodiments are directed to systems and methods for selecting appropriate transmission configurations in a mobile ad hoc frequency division duplexing mesh network. In one scenario, a node receives transmission parameters from a neighboring node, where the transmission parameters include an indication of the node's current transmission configuration. The node receives network parameters from neighboring nodes, where the network parameters include connection information describing the node's current network connection to the neighboring nodes. Then, based on the received transmission parameters and the received network parameters, the node calculates a change factor which indicates the desirability of changing transmission configuration. The node accesses the calculated change factor to determine whether the transmission configuration of the node is to be changed and, upon determining that the change factor indicates that the transmission configuration of the node should be changed, the transmission configuration of the node is changed to a second, different transmission configuration.
