System and process for purification of Astatine-211 from target materials

An isotope production system, emanation generator, and process are disclosed for production of high-purity radioisotopes. In one implementation example, high-purity Pb-212 and/or Bi-212 isotopes are produced suitable for therapeutic applications. In one embodiment the process includes transporting gaseous radon-220 from a radium-224 bearing generator which provides gas-phase separation of the Rn-220 from the Ra-224 in the generator. Subsequent decay of the captured Rn-220 accumulates high-purity Pb-212 and/or Bi-212 isotopes suitable for direct therapeutic applications. Other high-purity product isotopes may also be prepared.

A system and a process for producing selected isotopic daughter products from parent materials characterized by the steps of loading the parent material upon a sorbent having a functional group configured to selectively bind the parent material under designated conditions, generating the selected isotopic daughter products, and eluting said selected isotopic daughter products from the sorbent. In one embodiment, the process also includes the step of passing an eluent formed by the elution step through a second sorbent material that is configured to remove a preselected material from said eluent. Method and system for radioisotope generation

Medical isotope generator systems are disclosed according to some aspects. In one aspect, aY generator system comprises a generator column, a concentration column, and a flow control system, through which the generator column and the concentration column are in fluid communication. The flow control system provides a plurality of flow configurations for delivering a milking solution to the generator column, the concentration column, or both, and for delivering an eluent solution to the concentration column in either a forward or a reverse flow direction. The generator column can comprise aSr stock adsorbed on a sorbent. The milking solution preferentially elutesY from the generator column. The concentration column comprises a sorbent that capturesY from the milking solution without altering the milking solution. The eluent solution elutesY from the concentration column.

Medical isotope generator systems

The invention encompasses systems for column-based separations, methods of packing and unpacking columns and methods of separating components of samples. In one aspect, the invention includes a method of packing and unpacking a column chamber, comprising: a) packing a matrix material within a column chamber to form a packed column; and b) after the packing, unpacking the matrix material from the column chamber without moving the column chamber. In another aspect, the invention includes a system for column-based separations, comprising: a) a fluid passageway, the fluid passageway comprising a column chamber and a flow path in fluid communication with the column chamber, the flow path being obstructed by a retaining material permeable to a carrier fluid and impermeable to a column matrix material suspended in the carrier fluid, the flow path extending through the column chamber and through the retaining material, the flow path being configured to form a packed column within the column chamber when a suspension of the fluid and the column matrix material is flowed along the flow path; and b) the fluid passageway extending through a valve intermediate the column chamber and the retaining material.

A 'compatible solvent' is a solvent which will preferentially removeBi radioactive isotopes from a primary sorbent without removingAc radioactive isotopes, and then allowBi radioactive isotopes removed from the primary sorbent to be retained on a secondary sorbent, without having to dilute or otherwise chemically or physically modify the compatible solvent in between exposure to the primary and secondary sorbents.
