A particular computing device providing service to a user device may become unavailable. If a computing device becomes unavailable, a backup computing device may be requested to provide services to user devices on a temporary basis to allow call completion. Messages to the backup computing device instance may indicate the basis for service issues and prompt further action by the computing device, such as registration with an alternative computing device or re-registration with a computing device that was determined to be unavailable.

A telephone number (TN) from a group of telephone numbers may be assigned/allocated to a user device (e.g., an internet-of-things (IoT) device, a computing device, a sensor, a smart meter, a tablet, a network device, a session initiation protocol (SIP) device, a web real-time communication (webRTC) enabled device, and/or any other device that is configured for communication (e.g., voice communication, video communication, signal communication, etc.) for a time period (e.g., the duration of timer, etc.) during which the TN may be used to make and/or receive calls. Once the time period expires the TN may be placed in a group of telephone numbers available to be assigned/reassigned to user devices.

Methods and systems for allocating telephone numbers

Systems, apparatuses, methods, and one or more computer-readable media storing executable instructions for registering a multi-port device are described. A computing device may receive a registration request from a user device supporting multiple ports. In response, the computing device may send to the user device a message including a plurality of telephone numbers and information of associated ports.

A computing device, such as a mapping application server, may track data associated with a plurality of user devices, such as an Internet Protocol version. A system, such as an IMS system, may use may use the data associated with the plurality of user devices to process messages. The computing device may respond to queries from various network elements. The responses may provide data that may be used to identify a protocol version, such as a Name Authority Pointer (NAPTR). Any necessary protocol interworking may be provided by the system.
