A micropump in which a fluid is pumped by the interaction of longitudinal acoustic waves and the fluid in the microchannel. The micropump having an acoustical transducer responsive to a high-frequency input and directing a longitudinal acoustic wave into the channel which induces a pressure gradient. The fluid in the channel flowing in the direction of travel of the acoustic wave in the channel.

Acoustic micropump

A method of fabrication wherein a nitride layer is spaced from a conductive substrate by an insulating layer and etching removes at least portions of an insulating layer to leave a nitride membrane spaced from the substrate. The surface of the conductive layer where the insulating layer is removed is chemically roughened and the etchant is removed by freeze-drying and sublimation to eliminate sticking of the nitride layer to the substrate surface during fabrication.

Method of fabricating an electrostatic ultrasonic transducer

A user defines a line of study by two or more icons placed on a two-dimensional motion image. A velocity profile or the estimated spectra at each point along the line of study are displayed as a function of position along the line of study. The velocity and variance parameters displayed are computed in reference to velocity direction angles selected by the user. The information displayed is obtained from scan converted information to facilitate the process. One or more spectral strips may be displayed in addition at one or more range gate positions.

Two-dimensional ultrasound display system

An electrostatic ultrasonic transducer formed on a semiconductor substrate by micro-machining wherein the transducer includes a silicon nitride membrane supported above the surface of the substrate by insulating supports; and the substrate and membrane define the electrodes of the transducer.

A display processor for an ultrasonic imaging system includes a two-dimensional filter to generate a smoothed image signal I.sub.p from a high spatial resolution image signal I.sub.D. I.sub.p is optimized for high contrast resolution and good tissue differentiation, and I.sub.D is optimized for high detail resolution and the display of fine structural details. I.sub.p and I.sub.D are applied as addressing inputs to a look-up table that provides an output image signal I.sub.O that combines both detail resolution of I.sub.D and contrast resolution of I.sub.p. I.sub.O can display detail resolution as brightness and contrast resolution as color. I.sub.O can also be formed as a weighted combination or sum of I.sub.p and I.sub.D.
