A sonar system is provided including a display screen, a transducer assembly including at least one transducer that is configured to emit one or more sonar signals into an underwater environment and receive sonar return data reflected from one or more objects, and a sonar module configured to generate a 3D matrix based on the sonar return data including a plurality of sonar returns that are each defined by a 3D positional value, determine a group of the plurality of sonar returns associated with an object, assign a predetermined icon to the determined group, and generate and display 3D image of the sonar return data. The predetermined icon is positioned within the 3D image at a position that corresponds to the position of the determined group such that the position of the predetermined icon corresponds to the position of the object.

Presenting objects in a sonar image of an underwater environment

Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are therefore provided for producing a 3D image of an underwater environment. An example method for providing an image of an underwater environment includes analyzing sonar returns to identify and display objects, such as fish or debris, in a 3D view. Such an image allows for differentiation between the sea floor and objects in a 3D sonar view. Some example methods provide for real-time tracking of fish. Further, the fish or other objects may be displayed over a continuous surface geometry based on sonar returns from a lake, sea, or river 'floor.'

Methods and apparatuses for constructing a 3D sonar image of objects in an underwater environment

Provided are a sonar system and transducer assembly for producing a 3D image of an underwater environment. The sonar system may include a housing having a transmit transducer that may transmit sonar pulses into the water. The system may include at least one sidescan transducer array in the housing that receives first and second sonar returns with first and second transducer elements and converts the first and second returns into first and second sonar return data. The first sidescan element may also transmit second sonar pulses, and at least one of the sidescan elements may receive the second sonar pulses to generate sidescan sonar return data. A sonar signal processor may then generate a 3D mesh data and sidescan image data and generate a 3D image data based on the 3D mesh data and sidescan image data. An associated method of using the sonar system is also provided.

Systems and associated methods for producing a 3D sonar image

Methods and sonar system for displaying a nautical chart and for adjusting depth indicators on the chart based on a calculated offset between the actual water level and the standard water level on which the chart is based. The offset is based on sonar soundings compared to depths indicated by the chart. The sonar system's processor automatically adjusts the chart's depth indicators to reflect the offset.
