An example method for determining fluid flow in an open channel fluid conduit may include coupling a sensor assembly to an exterior surface of the open channel fluid conduit. Measurements may be received from the sensor assembly. The method may further include calculating a flow rate of a fluid within the open channel fluid conduit based, at least in part, on the received measurement.

Drilling fluid flow measurement in an open channel fluid conduit

A degasser system may comprise a mass flow controller device and a sample pump coupled to a sample degasser for controlling the dilution of gases extracted from drilling fluid in the sample degasser by a dilution fluid, such as nitrogen gas. The mass flow controller may inject the dilution fluid into the tank of the sample degasser to dilute the gases extracted from the drilling fluid. The dilution fluid may be aspirated or sparged into the sample degasser. The sample pump may extract a sample of the gases separated from the drilling fluid by the sample degasser. The rate of injection of the dilution fluid into the sample degasser and the rate of extraction of the gas sample from the drilling fluid may be adjustable to control the dilution of the gas sample for analysis.

An apparatus includes a first cable clamp and a first apparatus section coupled to the first cable clamp. The apparatus includes a second cable clamp and a second apparatus section coupled to the second cable clamp. The second apparatus section is slidably coupled to the second apparatus section. The apparatus includes a first measuring device portion coupled to the first apparatus section, a second measuring device portion coupled to the second apparatus section, wherein the first measuring device portion and the second measuring device portion are in at least one of mechanical, optical, and electromagnetic communication.

Degasser assemblies, systems and methods, including an air-driven degasser assembly that includes a degasser having a drive shaft with a seal that inhibits intrusion of ambient air and an air motor having a motor shaft that drives the drive shaft. The motor shaft is distinct from or integral to the drive shaft, and the air motor is positioned to direct air leakage around the motor shaft away from the seal.

A system for sampling drilling fluid to identify one or more species of interest within the drilling fluid includes a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger has a first fluid passage and a second fluid passage. Each fluid passage has an inlet and an outlet. In addition, the system includes a supply line coupled to the inlet of the first fluid passage. Further, the system includes a return line coupled to the outlet of the second fluid passage. Still further, the system includes a drilling fluid heater having an inlet coupled to the outlet of the first fluid passage and an outlet. The system also includes a drilling fluid degasser having an inlet coupled to the outlet of the heater, a first outlet coupled to an analyzer configured to identify the one or more species of interest, and a second outlet coupled to the inlet of the second fluid passage.

A degassing system includes a vessel. A liquid inlet lets liquid into the vessel. A liquid outlet lets liquid out of the vessel. A liquid receiving chamber receives the liquid that enters the vessel through the liquid inlet. The liquid receiving chamber is open on one side. The degassing system further includes a motor having a shaft and a pump coupled to the shaft. The pump has the shape of a cone. The cone has an axis, a narrow end and a wide end. The pump is positioned so that its narrow end is inserted into the open side of the liquid receiving chamber and so that its wide end is close enough to a wall of the vessel so that fluid ejected from the wide end when the pump is spinning will strike the wall. The degassing system includes a gas outlet for releasing gas from the vessel.
