A floor heating system includes a flooring substrate having a heating or cooling element in heat transfer relationship therewith. A heat spreader is in heat transfer relationship with the flooring substrate. The heat spreader includes a layer of flexible graphite material. A floor covering overlies the layer of flexible graphite material. Temperature variations across an exposed surface of the floor covering are reduced by the presence of the flexible graphite heat spreader, thus providing an improved and more uniform heating to the floor and to the room with which the floor is associated.

A graphite heat spreader is provided for use with a flash LED light source for a camera of a handheld device such as a cell phone. Dramatically reduced operating temperatures are provided at substantially increased power levels thus providing both improved lighting and improved operating life of the electronic components.

Cycling LED heat spreader

Constructions for and methods of manufacturing graphite heat spreaders having thermal vias placed therethrough are provided. Thermal vias having one or two flanges are disclosed, as are flush thermal vias. Graphite heat spreaders having surface layers covering the graphite material are provided. Graphite heat spreaders having a layer of cladding for increased structural integrity are provided. Also disclosed are methods of co-forging a graphite heat spreader element with a metal thermal via in place therein.

A process for preparing a gas permeable flexible graphite sheet is presented. The process includes providing graphite flakes; admixing the graphite flakes with a sacrificial additive to form a graphite mixture; compressing the graphite mixture into a sheet having sacrificial additive dispersed therethrough; and treating the sheet to at least partially remove the sacrificial additive to form a permeable flexible graphite sheet.

Gas permeable flexible graphite sheet material and process therefor

An improved method enables preparation of articles for a variety of applications, including embossing or otherwise shaping to form a variety of articles. A plurality of thin, preferably resin-impregnated, flexible graphite sheets are arranged to form zones in a composite material having a graded density or other characteristic. Variation of properties between zones in the stock material formed is useful for achieving a desired set of properties in the formation of articles such as those useful in electrochemical fuel cells and double-layer capacitors.
