A quaternary amine composition selected from the group consisting of Formula I, Formula II, Formula III, and combinations of the same. A method of synthesizing a quaternary amine composition comprising the steps of reacting an alkoxylated dimer diamine with a methyl halogen, where the methyl halogen is selected from the group consisting of methyl chloride, methyl iodine, and combinations of the same; and allowing the reaction to proceed to produce the quaternary amine composition, the quaternary amine composition selected from the group consisting of Formula I, Formula II, Formula III, and combinations of the same. A method of treating a well comprising the steps of introducing an additive-containing well fluid to a well, where the additive-containing well fluid comprises a quaternary amine composition and a well fluid, allowing the additive-containing well fluid to interact with the well, and treating the well with the additive-containing fluid.

Additives for oil and gas drilling and production

Terpene-based spotting fluid compositions and processes for freeing differentially stuck pipe are provided. A spotting fluid composition includes a terpene and an acid, such that the acid initiates an exothermic polymerization reaction of the terpene. Another spotting fluid composition includes an invert emulsion having a terpene external phase and a non-miscible organic hygroscopic fluid internal phase. The terpene emulsion spotting fluid composition may be introduced downhole in the vicinity of a portion of a differentially stuck pipe such that the spotting fluid composition contacts a filter cake surrounding the portion of the differentially stuck pipe. An acid may be introduced downhole in the vicinity of a portion of a differentially stuck pipe such that the acid initiates an exothermic polymerization reaction of the terpene of the terpene emulsion spotting fluid composition.

Treating a subterranean formation with a composition including a maleic anhydride copolymer, an amine crosslinker, and a gelling agent. The maleic anhydride copolymer includes first repeat units I and II and at least one of second repeat units III and IV: where each Ris independently-H, &#x2014;O(C-C) alkyl, or &#x2014;(C-C) alkyl; each Ris independently-H, &#x2014;O(C-C) alkyl, or &#x2014;(C-C) alkyl; each Ris independently &#x2014;OH or &#x2014;OM, each Mis independently an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, an ammonium ion, or a quaternary ammonium ion; and each Ris independently-NHor &#x2014;OM. The gelling agent includes at least one of: a calcium chelating agent, a calcium precipitating agent, a pH buffer, an agent reactive with hydroxide, and an acid generating agent, and promotes formation of a gel from the maleic anhydride copolymer and the amine crosslinker in contact with set cement.

Compositions and methods for sealing off flow channels in contact with wet cement

In a method to degrade filtercake in a hydrocarbon reservoir using downhole in-situ heat generation, a filtercake breaker, configured to degrade filtercake at a temperature, is mixed with a drilling fluid. The drilling fluid mixed with the filtercake breaker is flowed through a hydrocarbon reservoir in which a wellbore is being drilled. A filtercake forms in a portion of the hydrocarbon reservoir responsive to flowing the drilling fluid. A temperature of the portion of the hydrocarbon reservoir is less than the temperature at which the filtercake breaker is configured to degrade filtercake. Multiple filtercake chemicals are flowed to the portion of the hydrocarbon reservoir. The multiple filtercake chemicals, when mixed, are configured to react in an exothermic reaction to release heat to increase the temperature of the portion of the hydrocarbon reservoir to at least the temperature at which the filtercake breaker is configured to degrade filtercake.

Compositions and methods for sealing off flow channels in contact with set cement

An oil-swellable gel lost circulation material (LCM) formed from an elastomeric polymer and a crosslinker amine is provided. The LCM may include gel pieces cut from gel strands formed from an elastomeric polymer and a crosslinker amine. The oil-swellable gel LCM composition may be formed by mixing an elastomeric polymer solution with a crosslinker amine and heating the mixture to form a crosslinked gel. The gel may be extruded through a die having orifices into a non-solvent and allowed to desolvate in the presence of the non-solvent. The gel strands may be dried and cut into gel pieces to form an LCM. The resulting LCM may swell when introduced to a loss circulation zone in the presence of a non-aqueous fluid such as a drilling mud or component of a drilling mud.
