A film extrusion composition includes specific amounts of a heat-resistant copolycarbonate, a slip agent, and a particulate crosslinked polymethylsilsesquioxane having particles of a specific size. An extruded film prepared from the film extrusion composition exhibits a beneficial balance of telescoping, blocking, and dielectric properties. The extruded film is useful for forming electrostatic film capacitors.

Extruded capacitor films with high temperature performance, methods of manufacture, and articles containing the same

A composition includes specific amounts of a copolycarbonate and a roughening agent. The copolycarbonate contains first carbonate units derived from a first bisphenol monomer such that a homopolycarbonate of the first bisphenol monomer has a glass transition temperature less than 155° C., and second carbonate units derived from a second bisphenol monomer such that a homopolycarbonate of the second bisphenol monomer has a glass transition temperature of 155° C. or higher. The roughening agent includes a particulate crosslinked polymethylsilsesquioxane having a median equivalent spherical diameter greater than 5 micrometers and less than or equal to 10 micrometers.

A polycarbonate-polysiloxane includes specific amounts of first carbonate units having the structure wherein Ris a C-Cdivalent aromatic group, second carbonate units having the structure wherein Ris a C-Cdivalent aromatic group having the structure wherein R, R, R, R, R, R, X, j, m, n, x, and y are defined herein. The polycarbonate-polysiloxane is useful for forming thin extruded films, which in turn are useful for fabricating electrostatic film capacitors.

A film including 70 to 99 weight percent of an amorphous, high heat copolycarbonate having a glass transition temperature of at least 170&#xb0; C., preferably 170 to 230&#xb0; C., more preferably 175 to 200&#xb0; C., and 1 to 30 weight percent of a cyclic olefin copolymer each based on the total weight of polymers in the film; wherein the film has a dielectric breakdown strength of greater than 700 Volts/micrometer, preferably 700 to 1250 Volts/micrometer at 150&#xb0; C., is provided. Methods for the manufacture of the film and articles including the films are provided.

A uniaxially-stretched, high yield extruded capacitor film comprising a miscible polymer blend comprising a polyetherimide and a polyester, wherein the polyetherimide comprises units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine comprising a m-phenylenediamine, a p-phenylenediamine, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine, wherein the polyester comprises repeating structural units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with a dihydroxy compound, and wherein the high yield extruded capacitor film comprises equal to or greater than about 90 wt. % of the miscible polymer blend entering an extruder used for manufacturing the capacitor film, based on the total weight of miscible polymer blend prior to entering the extruder.

A uniaxially-stretched, high yield extruded capacitor film comprising a miscible polymer blend comprising a polyetherimide and a poly(carbonate-arylate ester), wherein the polyetherimide comprises units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine comprising a m-phenylenediamine, a p-phenylenediamine, or combinations thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine, wherein the poly(carbonate-arylate ester) comprises repeating bisphenol carbonate units and repeating arylate ester units, wherein the repeating bisphenol carbonate units and the repeating arylate ester units are different from each other, and wherein the high yield extruded capacitor film comprises equal to or greater than about 90 wt. % of the miscible polymer blend entering an extruder used for manufacturing the capacitor film, based on the total weight of miscible polymer blend prior to entering the extruder.

A polyetherimide film comprising a fluoropolymer and an extruded polyetherimide comprising units derived from polymerization of an aromatic dianhydride with a diamine selected from a meta-phenylene diamine, a para-phenylene diamine, and a combination thereof, wherein the polyetherimide is endcapped with an a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic primary monoamine; and wherein the polyetherimide film comprises at least 90 weight % of the polyetherimide before extrusion.

The method provides a filtered polymeric composition having reduced levels of particulate impurities.
