A cap for sealing a cartridge includes a cap body, a plug, and a biasing member. The cap body includes a cap wall and an annular wall extending from the cap wall. The annular wall defines a channel within and includes a retention member having a barb, a stop spaced apart from the barb, and a base extending circumferentially about a portion of the annular wall from the barb to the stop. The barb, the stop, and the base define a retention channel. The plug is positioned within the channel of the cap body. The plug includes a plug wall and a plug member extending from the plug wall. The biasing member is positioned within the channel of the cap body between the plug wall and the cap wall. The biasing member is configured to provide a biasing force to bias the cap wall away from the plug wall.

A mixing baffle for mixing a fluid flow includes a longitudinal support structure and a first set of moveable mixing elements integrally molded with and extending from the longitudinal support structure. The first set of moveable mixing elements are molded in a first configuration and deform to a second configuration. The first set of moveable mixing elements may deform when the mixing baffle is inserted into a conduit. A static mixer for mixing a fluid includes a conduit and the mixing baffle inserted in the conduit.

An adapter for connecting a separated-outlet fluid cartridge to a single-inlet static mixer includes a locking portion and a connecting portion. The locking portion has at least one locking element to lockingly engage the mixer housing so as to inhibit rotation between the locking portion and the housing. The connecting portion is received within the locking portion and has first and second fluid inlet members to be coupled to respective first and second fluid outlets of the cartridge for receiving fluid from the cartridge, and a fluid outlet member is sealingly coupled to the mixer for directing fluid into the mixer. The locking portion is selectively rotatable about the connecting portion between unlocked and locked positions relative to the cartridge when the connecting portion is coupled to the cartridge. Consequently, the adapter advantageously enables dispensing with a separated-outlet fluid cartridge in combination with a single-inlet static mixer.

Adapters for connecting a separated-outlet fluid cartridge to a single-inlet mixer, and related methods

A side-by-side cartridge assembly for dispensing a first fluid and a second fluid includes a first cartridge body and a second cartridge body having first and second cartridge coupling elements, respectively. The first cartridge body extends along an axial direction and has a radial boundary or periphery transverse to the axial direction. The first cartridge has a first neck portion of a neck, and the second cartridge has a second neck portion of the neck. The first neck portion projects from the first cartridge body such that the first neck portion is within the radial boundary or periphery of the first cartridge. As such, the first cartridge coupling element operatively connects to the second cartridge coupling element to secure the first cartridge to the second cartridge and form the neck for discharging a first fluid and a second fluid.

A static mixer for mixing a flow of two or more fluids is disclosed. The static mixer includes a mixing conduit that defines a mixing passage, and a mixing element configured to be received by the mixing passage that includes at least two mixing baffles. Each of the at least two mixing baffles comprises a plurality panels that are configured to divide and mix the fluid as the fluid flows through the mixing passage. No continuous sidewalls extend between the at least two mixing baffles, and the mixing element is tapered along a longitudinal direction.

An adapter for connecting a separated-outlet fluid cartridge to a single-inlet static mixer includes a lock mechanism and a lock release mechanism. The adapter includes a connection portion that engages the mixer. The lock mechanism has at least one snap arm that lockingly engages the cartridge in a snap fit manner so as to secure the adapter to the cartridge in fluid communication. When in the locked position, separate fluids are evacuated from the cartridge into the mixer where they are mixed prior to dispensing. The lock release mechanism quickly and easily unlocks the at least one snap arm from the cartridge for allowing a user to separate the adapter from the cartridge. The adapter sealing engages with both the mixer and the cartridge so that fluid flowing from the cartridge to the mixer does not leak.

A flow shifter baffle for mixing a fluid flow having at least two components, a static mixer, and method of mixing are described. The flow shifter baffle includes a double divider wall element adjacent to a leading edge and a plurality of occluding walls coupled to the double divider wall element. The double divider wall element includes first and second generally parallel walls which extend across the entire transverse flow cross-section. The double divider wall element is configured to divide the fluid flow into a central flow portion and first and second peripheral flow portions. This division of the fluid flow using the double divider wall element and the plurality of occluding walls improves the mixing of separate components by producing a greater number of layers with less jumbling of the layers, when a layered composition of multiple components is delivered into the flow shifter baffle.

An entry mixing element is provided for mixing an incoming fluid flow having first and second unmixed components arranged so as to define a transverse flow cross-section perpendicular to a flow direction. The entry mixing element includes a central axis configured to be aligned with the flow direction of the incoming fluid flow, and an entry dividing wall extending parallel to the central axis and positioned to divide the incoming fluid flow into first and second fluid flow portions, each portion containing an amount of the first component and an amount of the second component. The entry dividing wall is configured to divide the incoming fluid flow into the first and second fluid flow portions in any rotational orientation of the entry mixing element about its central axis relative to the transverse flow cross-section of the incoming fluid flow. Related static mixers and methods of mixing are also provided.

An adapter for connecting a separated-outlet fluid cartridge to a single-inlet static mixer includes a locking portion and a connecting portion. The locking portion has at least one locking element configured to lockingly engage the mixer housing so as to inhibit rotation between the locking portion and the housing. The connecting portion is received within the locking portion and has first and second fluid inlet members configured to be coupled to respective first and second fluid outlets of the cartridge for receiving fluid from the cartridge, and a fluid outlet member configured to be sealingly coupled to the mixer for directing fluid into the mixer. A static mixer includes at least one flow inverter baffle. The flow inverter baffle includes a first dividing panel to divide the fluid flow into a first flow portion adjacent a first side of the first dividing panel and a second flow portion adjacent a second side of the first dividing panel. The flow inverter baffle also includes a dividing element to divide the second flow portion into first and second perimeter flow portions. Additionally, first, second and third inversion elements to invert the flow layers of the at least two components by shifting the fluid flow to a different portion of a flow cross-section within the mixer while maintaining the general orientation of the flow layers as the fluid flow moves progresses through the flow inverter baffle. The flow inverter baffle also reduces backpressure by limiting the total amount of movement to cause the inversion.

A static mixer for mixing a mass fluid flow includes an elongate body including an open proximal end, an open distal end and an inner wall. At least a portion of the inner wall includes a plurality of undercuts formed therein to define a convoluted conduit. The conduit extends along a central axis between the proximal end and the distal end. A portion of the undercuts defines a center-to-perimeter flow portion within the conduit. A portion of the undercuts defines a perimeter-to-center flow portion within the conduit.

Static mixers and methods for using and making the same

A mixing baffle for mixing a fluid flow in a static mixer includes a mixing element support structure extending along a longitudinal direction and a first set of moveable mixing elements coupled to the mixing element support structure. The first set of moveable mixing elements is formed in a first configuration and moves to a second configuration when the mixing baffle is inserted into a tubular conduit. In the second configuration, the first set of moveable mixing elements is optimized for mixing fluids and defines a plurality of undercuts that are difficult to mold. The mixing baffle may also include a second set of stationary mixing elements that interlace with the first set of moveable mixing elements when the first set of moveable mixing elements moves to the second configuration.
