Templating software can determine and visually depict the location and size of cuts in a trochanteric osteotomy, including an extended trochanteric osteotomy. The software can also calculate the size and area of fixation for a newly implanted prosthesis, based upon which the new prosthesis that will be implanted in a particular patient can be selected. Additionally, an adjustable cut guide can stabilize and guide the cuts during the procedure.

Devices and methods for trochanteric osteotomy

In some examples, an apparatus includes a working surface including at least one material removal member. The material removal member is configured to remove at least some of a first portion of a first material. A protrusion extends outwardly from the working surface. The protrusion extends beyond the at least one material removal member by a first distance. The protrusion is configured to inhibit the at least one material removal member from removing at least a second portion of the first material. The second portion has a thickness substantially equal to the first distance.

The orthopedic implant comprises an open porous metal component, having pores for promoting bone regeneration, and a resorbable bone growth promoting component which is resorbed into new bone. The orthopedic implant and methods of the present disclosure provide structural support for the bone as well as osteoconductive and/or osteoinductive matrix for promoting bone re-growth within bone void. Advantageously, the orthopedic implants and methods disclosed herein are useful in filling critically sized bone voids.

Composite device that combines porous metal and bone stimuli

An orthopaedic implant for filling a bone void and a method of using the same. The orthopaedic implant comprises an open porous metal portion and a bone cement portion. At a first surface region, the open porous metal portion facilitates bone and/or soft tissue ingrowth into the pores of the first surface region of the open porous metal. At a second surface region, the open porous metal facilitates reception of the bone cement into the pores of the second surface region of the open porous metal. The open porous metal portion of the orthopaedic implant may also be formed of a plurality of porous metal fragments aggregated together with the cement portion of the orthopaedic implant. Additionally, the orthopaedic implant may be pliable and thereby capable of being molded to the shape of a void in a bone.

Multi-layered prosthetic constructs, kits, and methods are disclosed. A prosthetic construct can include a first ceramic component having a first surface, the first ceramic component comprising a first ceramic material, and a second ceramic component having a second surface disposed on the first surface of the first ceramic component, the second ceramic component comprising a second ceramic material. The second ceramic material of the second ceramic component can exert a compressive force on the first ceramic material. A ceramic material of the second ceramic component can include a different coefficient of thermal expansion than a ceramic material of the first ceramic component. Optionally, a ceramic construct can include a ceramic component and a membrane disposed onto and bonded to at least a portion of the ceramic component, the membrane configured to provide fracture reinforcement to the ceramic component.
