Liquid crystalline polyester-siloxanes are provided resulting from the condensation of hydroxybenzoic acid with a mixture of 4,4'-(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1,3-disiloxanediyl)bisbenzoic acid and a dihydric phenol such as biphenol or hydroquinone. Terephthalic acid also can be used.

Liquid crystalline polyester siloxanes

A method is provided for making carboxy aryl terminated organosiloxanes, such as 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-1-3-disiloxane diyl) bis(benzoic acid) by heating a mixture of an aqueous organic solvent and the corresponding haloacyl aryl terminated organosiloxane. The carboxy aryl terminated organolsiloxanes of the present invention can be used to make silicone polyester block copolymers and silicone polycarbonate block copolymers where the silicone block is joined to the organic block by an ester linkage.

Method for making carboxy aryl terminated organosiloxanes

Liquid crystalline polyesters are provided employing 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyls substituted with organo radicals which are intercondensed with bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ether, iso- or terphthalic acid, and hydroxybenzoic acid. The liquid crystalline polyesters have been found to have improved processing characteristics.

Liquid crystalline polyesters are provided having chemically combined 4,4'-bis(p-carboxyphenoxy)biphenyl, or 4,4'-bis(p-carboxyphenoxy)diphenylether units. These dicarboxyphenylether spacers can be obtained from the nitro displacement of alkyl nitrobenzene with the appropriate bisphenol.
