Implementations for providing views of an electronic mail service are described. A user interface may be provided for accessing electronic mail. The user interface may allow users to manage a plurality of mailbox views. A mailbox view may be associated with a set of search criteria for retrieving electronic mails messages associated with an account.

Provisioning mailbox views

A search server may receive a request to generate a set of indexes based at least in part on content associated with a user. The search server may generate a set of segments to divide the content. For a particular segment the search service then selects an indexing strategy to be used to generate an index for the particular segment. Other indexing strategies may be used to generate indexes for other segments. In addition, along with storing the index, the search server may store information indicating an association with the particular segment and the selected indexing strategy.

Per-user search strategies

Method and systems are disclosed for communication associated with a communication platform. Third-party services and services internal to a service provider network may be integrated with the communication platform. The communication platform may allow communication via information streams that are accessible via a user interface of the communication platform and one or more external services. An example external service may comprise an electronic mail service.

A messaging service provides a search mechanism that utilizes a protected index. The protected index is generated by converting documents maintained by the messaging service into a set of tokens or words. Each token is converted to a corresponding value using a transformation such as a cryptographic hash function. The values are placed into an index that allows the messaging service to efficiently identify a set of documents associated with each particular value. When a document search request is submitted to the messaging service, the messaging service uses the transformation to generate corresponding values for each term in the search request, and uses the index to identify sets of documents associated with the values corresponding to the search terms. The messaging service applies search logic associated with the search request to the identified sets of documents to produce a final set of documents satisfying search request.

Protected search index

A network traffic monitoring service provides a way to search network traffic intercepted by a network firewall while protecting the privacy of non-matching network traffic that traverses the firewall. Network traffic is parsed and processed into a set of tokens. In various implementations, the tokens may be words, HTML tags, data values, or other searchable units of information. The tokens are converted into a set of hashes, and the set of hashes is provided to the traffic monitoring service. A search authority submits a search request to the traffic monitoring service. Search terms of the search request are converted to a set of hashes to produce a hashed search request. The traffic monitoring service processes the hashed search request against the set of hashes provided by the network firewall to determine whether the network traffic represented by the set of hashes matches the search request.

Network content search system and method

Systems and methods for providing a service to a device based on a capability of the device are described herein. A device type of the device may be identified based on information associated with the device. A determination may be made whether the device supports the service, based at least on the device type. The service may be provided to the device when the device supports the service.

Providing services using a device capabilities service

In some implementations, in response to receiving a request message from a client device, a computing device may provide a response message that includes a custom or non-standard control header. The control header may instruct the client device to wait before sending any subsequent request messages to the computing device. For example, the control header may inform the client device to wait until passage of period of time or until after a specified time arrives before sending a subsequent request message. A module, an application, an operating system, or other software on the client device that receives the response message, interprets the control header and performs one or more operations to comply with the control header. Accordingly, some implementations herein utilize message headers to perform message throttling for controlling an amount of network traffic or load on one or more computing devices.

Controlling requests through message headers

An electronic book distribution system encrypts distributed electronic books ('eBooks') with a content key. The content key is in turn encrypted with a voucher key. The voucher key for a particular eBook is generated based on a combination of (a) an ID or serial number of an eBook reader device to which the eBook is being distributed, (b) a user account secret associated with a user of the eBook reader device, and (c) metadata associated with the eBook itself.

Systems and method provide logic for providing a service. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method provides a service to a device based on a capability of the device. The method includes identifying a device type of a device based on information associated with the device. The method determines whether the device supports the service, based on at least the identified device type, and provides the service to the device, when the device supports the service.
