A gas turbine engine includes a rotor that that has a seal surface, a shaft that has an annular seal channel that opens to the seal surface, and a seal disposed in the annular seal channel for sealing against the seal surface. The seal is made of a composite having carbon fibers disposed in a carbon matrix.

An actuation structure changes the orientation of a vane airfoil. A spindle is fixed to the airfoil such that when the arm turns the spindle, the spindle turns the airfoil, the spindle extends through a bore in the housing. A mount is between the spindle and the housing at the bore, with a metal wear sleeve pressed into the housing at the bore, such that it is part of the housing. A bushing is secured to an outer periphery of the spindle such that a bearing surface during rotation of the spindle is provided by an outer periphery of the bushing and an inner periphery of the metal wear sleeve. A seal is radially outward of the bushing with the seal providing an air seal between the spindle and the bore. A gas turbine engine is also disclosed.

The aerostructure may comprise an airfoil extending from a leading edge to a trailing edge, the airfoil comprising a stiffness and a camber, and a shape memory alloy (SMA) mechanically coupled to the airfoil via a resin, the SMA configured to be coupled to a current source, wherein at least one of the stiffness or the camber changes in response to a phase change of the SMA.

A vane arm assembly for a gas turbine engine is provided including: a vane arm having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and an aperture proximate the second end, the aperture being defined by an aperture wall; a vane stem extending through the aperture of the vane arm; a mechanical fastener retaining a position of the vane arm in the longitudinal direction of the vane stem; and an impedance clip partially enclosing a portion of the second end of the vane arm to provide redundant position retention of the vane arm in the longitudinal direction of the vane stem.

A gas turbine engine includes an engine core having a compressor section, a combustor fluidly connected to the compressor section, and a turbine section fluidly connected to the combustor section. At least one compressor bleed connects a compressor flowpath with a first cooled cooling air path. A vane arm assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a vane stem having a circumferential groove axially spaced from an outer end of the vane stem. The assembly also includes a vane arm defining an arm aperture that the vane stem is disposed within. The assembly further includes a mechanical fastener retaining an axial position of the vane arm in the axial direction. The assembly yet further includes a retention clip having a base portion and at least one clip arm, the base portion defining a clip aperture that the vane stem is disposed within, the base portion disposed within the circumferential groove of the vane stem to couple the retention clip to the vane stem, the at least one clip arm including a retention member engaged with the vane arm to provide redundant axial retention of the vane arm.

A high pressure compressor section of a gas turbine engine including: an inner case separating a core flow path of the gas turbine engine and a plenum formed between the inner case and an outer case; a bleed port located on an inner surface of the inner case, the inner surface being proximate the core flow path; an outlet located on an outer surface of the inner case, the outer surface being proximate the plenum; and a bleed air passageway passing through the inner case to fluidly connect the bleed port to the outlet, wherein the bleed air passageway is fluidly connected to the core flow path through the bleed port and the bleed air passageway is fluidly connected to the plenum through the outlet.

A system for motoring a gas turbine engine of an aircraft is provided. The system includes an air turbine starter operable to drive rotation of a starting spool of the gas turbine engine and a starter air valve operable to deliver compressed air to the air turbine starter in response to the starter air valve being open. The system also includes a metered orifice coupled in a bypass configuration around the starter air valve to deliver a reduced amount of the compressed air to the air turbine starter while the starter air valve is closed. The reduced amount of the compressed air delivered to the air turbine starter limits a motoring speed of the gas turbine engine below a resonance speed of the starting spool of the gas turbine engine.
