An integrated aircraft lighting and display panel includes high-density arrays of micro-scale light-emitting diodes (LED) set into a flexible printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB and LED arrays may be set into structural layers corresponding to overhead panels, side panels, bin panels, divider panels, doorway panels, or other interior structural panels of the aircraft. The LED arrays may be activated by a controller to provide cabin lighting, indicate aircraft signage, display high-resolution image or video graphics, or any simultaneous combination of all three. The panel may have a translucent or transparent decorative outer skin which may mimic the outward appearance of wood, stone, bamboo, or other decorative materials while the integrated lighting and display panels are inactive. Highly reflective core materials, such as an aluminum core in a honeycomb pattern, may guide the luminous output of the LED arrays through the outer skin.

Disclosed herein is an overhead passenger service unit (PSU) for a vehicle, comprising: a mounting mechanism for mounting the PSU above at least one vehicle seat; a dynamic seat row marker that provides an indication of a seat position and a status portion indicating a status of a passenger or trip aspect that is readily viewable from a vehicle aisle and is changeable during a trip; and a programmable active display that is readily viewable from a passenger seat and provides trip changeable information about the trip to the passenger.

Smart passenger service unit

In an illustrative embodiment, an integrated speaker-light unit includes a base unit adapted to be mounted to a fixture of an aircraft, a speaker unit disposed proximate the base unit, a horn element having a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end positioned proximate the speaker unit and defining a first aperture, and the distal end defining a second aperture, where a greatest measurement of the second aperture is larger than a greatest measurement of the first aperture, an LED unit disposed at least partially in the horn element, and a housing element at least partially surrounding the horn element. The greatest measurement of the second aperture may be less than 4 inches. The base unit may be mounted to a passenger service unit such that the integrated speaker-light unit is presented as a passenger reading light.

A flexible LED lighting module includes a flexible housing and flexible PCB to which LED units are mounted. An encapsulant fills a channel of the flexible housing and has a same or similar optical refractive index value as is used in the LED unit to hold phosphorous particles used for coloring of the LED. Use of the encapsulant changes the color of the light ultimately emitted from the flexible LED lighting module, and this factor is corrected for in calibration processes associated with the flexible LED lighting module.

Flexible LED lighting element

A clamp for holding a twisted lighting unit includes a body member having a slot extending from its top wall to its base. The slot extends from an end wall to a side wall to create a passage for receiving a twisted portion of a lighting unit. Parallel surfaces are provided over a portion of the width of the passage to hold the lighting unit in its intended position. Various curves in the slot receive the twist itself and facilitate insertion of the clamp on the lighting unit and reduce the strain experienced along the edge of the lighting unit.

A wearable light assembly includes an opaque housing that is open towards the ground and is configured to reflect light emitted from a first light source downward onto a first location that is close to the wearer and reflect light from a second light source downward onto a second location on the ground that is farther away from the wearer than the first location. In an embodiment, the wearable light assembly senses motion of the wearer and switches between the first light source and the second light source depending on whether the wearer is moving slowly (in which case it activates the first light source) or moving quickly (in which case it activates the second light source).
