Provided are methods for transferring graphene from graphene-on-metal foil onto a substrate. The method does not require chemical etching to remove the metal foil and provides more a uniform graphene with improved electronic properties. The present invention also provides compositions comprising graphene, a binder, and a substrate.

Method for transferring graphene from metal substrates

An ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) system that reduces atmospheric COand mitigates ocean acidification by electrochemically processing feedstock solution (e.g., seawater or brine) to generate an alkalinity product that is then supplied to the ocean. The OAE system includes a base-generating device and a control circuit disposed within a modular system housing deployed near a salt feedstock. The base-generating device (e.g., a bipolar electrodialysis (BPED) system) generates a base substance that is then tested and processed (e.g., mixed/diluted with processed feedstock solution, seawater or another saltwater solution and/or reacted with CO) to generate the ocean alkalinity product. The control circuit controls the base-generating device such that the alkalinity product is supplied to the ocean only when supplying the alkalinity product will not endanger sea life. Modified BPED systems include features that facilitate autonomous system operations including enhanced maintenance cycle operations and a reduced reliance on external fresh water sources.

Ocean alkalinity system and method for capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide

Provided are methods of forming graphene laminate compositions and architectures. The method comprises: (i) contacting a graphene structure comprising one or more planar graphene sheets with a first interlayer material; (ii) depositing of a conductive material, where in the conductive material is deposited along an edge of the graphene and one end of the first interlayer; and (iii) contacting the graphene structure with a second interlayer material. Also provided are graphene laminates structures comprising doped graphene films having improved mechanical strength, electrical mobility and optical transparency.

Graphene laminate structures

An acid substance (e.g., HCl) generated as the byproduct of an ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) process is neutralized using an in-situ acid neutralization subsystem by forcing the acid byproduct through an alkaline formation such that the acid substance is neutralized through interaction with alkaline rocks as the acid byproduct flows from an injection well to a recovery well. A flow rate of acid substance through rock formation is optimized to (a) maximize the amount of neutralized acid substance, and (b) minimize the amount of residual acid substance at the recovery well. The acid flow rate is adjusted by mixing the acid byproduct with a buffer and/or by a flow control device. Acid neutralization and COcapture are combined by forcing COthrough the alkaline formation to react with divalent ions generated by the acid neutralization process, thereby mineralizing the COin the form of carbonate rocks (e.g., limestone or dolostone).

In-situ acid neutralization and carbon mineralization

Acid byproduct from an OAE system is mixed with an aqueous alkaline fluid under conditions that maintain the mixture at or above a target pH level at which the rate of acid neutralization is maximized and the release of COinto the atmosphere is prevented. A neutralization controller utilizes sensor data to monitor the mixture's pH level and to control the rate at which acid byproduct is added (e.g., by a dosing pump) to the mixture. A reaction tank and an optional circulation line and in-line mixer are utilized to perform the mixing process. An optional agitator mechanism is provided to stir the mixture in the reaction tank, and to optionally move sensors and/or injectors along circular paths through the mixture. Optional fixed sensors and/or injectors are located in designated spaced-apart regions inside the reaction tank. The mixture is treated using optional flocculation and grit processing systems/devices.

OAE system with controlled acid neutralization

Methods for etching nanostructures in a substrate include depositing a patterned block copolymer on the substrate, the patterned block copolymer including first and second polymer block domains, applying a precursor to the patterned block copolymer to generate an infiltrated block copolymer, the precursor infiltrating into the first polymer block domain and generating a material in the first polymer block domain, applying a removal agent to the infiltrated block copolymer to generate a patterned material, the removal agent removing the first and second polymer block domains from the substrate, and etching the substrate, the patterned material on the substrate masking the substrate to pattern the etching. The etching may be performed under conditions to produce nanostructures in the substrate.

Formation of antireflective surfaces

The disclosure relates to enhancing alkalinity of brine, e.g. seawater, using bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPMED) without removing divalent cations that otherwise cause scaling. In one embodiment, a BPMED is employed wherein the brine volumetric flow rate through a basification compartment is greater at a given current density than that through a brine compartment which increases the pH of the brine output while keeping it below the precipitation pH. In one embodiment, the spacer located in the basification compartment is thicker than spacers elsewhere in the BPMED so as resist membrane distortion due to the increased hydrostatic pressure in the basification compartment given the greater volumetric flow. The brine output having increased alkalinity can be returned to the ocean to mitigate acidification and enable capture of atmospheric carbon dioxide.

System and method for electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement

An ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) system that reduces atmospheric COand mitigates ocean acidification by electrochemically processing feedstock solution (e.g., seawater or brine) to generate an alkalinity product that is then supplied to the ocean. The OAE system includes a base-generating device and a control circuit disposed within a modular system housing deployed near a salt feedstock. The base-generating device (e.g., a bipolar electrodialysis (BPED) system) generates a base substance that is then used to generate the ocean alkalinity product. The control circuit controls the base-generating device such that the alkalinity product is supplied to the ocean only when (1) sufficient low/zero-carbon electricity is available, (2) it is safe to operate the base-generating device, and (3) supplying the alkalinity product will not endanger sea life. Modified BPED systems include features that facilitate autonomous system operations including enhanced maintenance cycle operations and a reduced reliance on external fresh water sources.

An apparatus includes a precursor dispenser for dispensing a precursor material into a workspace, one or more acoustic sources configured to direct acoustic waves towards the workspace to provide acoustic fields that arrange the precursor material in a three-dimensional shape in the workspace, one or more sensors configured to detect a distribution of the precursor material in the workspace, and an electronic controller in communication with the precursor dispenser, the one or more acoustic sources, and the one or more sensors, the electronic controller being programmed to cause the one or more acoustic sources to adjust the acoustic fields to reduce deviations in the distribution of the precursor material from the three-dimensional shape in the workspace.

Sensing and feedback for the formation of complex three-dimensional acoustic fields

Technologies are described for methods and systems effective for etching nanostructures in a substrate. The methods may comprise depositing a patterned block copolymer on the substrate. The patterned block copolymer may include first and second polymer block domains. The methods may comprise applying a precursor to the patterned block copolymer to generate an infiltrated block copolymer. The precursor may infiltrate into the first polymer block domain and generate a material in the first polymer block domain. The methods may comprise applying a removal agent to the infiltrated block copolymer to generate a patterned material. The removal agent may be effective to remove the first and second polymer block domains from the substrate. The methods may comprise etching the substrate. The patterned material on the substrate may mask the substrate to pattern the etching. The etching may be performed under conditions to produce nanostructures in the substrate.

An apparatus includes an acoustic source for directing an acoustic wave towards a workspace, a variable acoustic diffractive device positioned in a path of the acoustic wave between the acoustic source and the workspace, the variable acoustic diffractive device including an array of elements each having independently variable acoustic properties, and an electronic controller in communication with the acoustic source and the variable acoustic diffractive device, the electronic controller programmed to supply signals to cause the acoustic source to produce the acoustic wave and the variable acoustic diffractive device to diffract the acoustic wave from the acoustic source to provide non-uniform acoustic forces in a medium located in the workspace.

The EEG system includes an EEG controller and an EEG sensor that includes a contact surface, the contact surface including an electrically-conductive portion in communication with the EEG controller and a sensor release element in communication with the EEG controller, the sensor release element being configured to perform, in response to a signal from the EEG controller, a release action to reduce adhesion of an electrically-conductive gel between the contact of the sensor and the user's skin.
