The present invention is directed to a medium ('substrate') usable with inkjet printing apparatus (either or both piezoelectric and thermal inkjet, or other forms of inkjet printing), and methods for forming and using the same. In one embodiment, the substrate comprises a base material component and an image enhancing layer including a metallic salt disposed either or both on at least one side of the base medium and mixed within the base medium thereon. The present invention is further directed to printable articles including the same.

Print media and methods for making the same

In a chip package, semiconductor dies in a vertical stack of semiconductor dies or chips (which is referred to as a 'plank stack') are separated by a mechanical spacer (such as a filler material or an adhesive). Moreover, the chip package includes a substrate at a right angle to the plank stack, which is electrically coupled to the semiconductor dies along an edge of the plank stack. In particular, electrical pads proximate to a surface of the substrate (which are along a stacking direction of the plank stack) are electrically coupled to pads that are proximate to edges of the semiconductor dies by an intervening conductive material, such as: solder, stud bumps, plated traces, wire bonds, spring connectors, a conductive adhesive and/or an anisotropic conducting film. Note that the chip package may facilitate high-bandwidth communication of signals between the semiconductor dies and the substrate.

A printhead having a plurality of drop generators formed on a substrate. Each drop generator includes a nozzle, and the nozzles are arranged in a dual inline architecture. In one embodiment, a column of nozzles includes a first group of nozzles located at a first axial position relative to a scan axis and a second group of nozzles located at a second axial position relative to the scan axis so that all nozzles in the column are located at either the first axial position or the second axial position. The distance along the scan axis between the first axial position and the second axial position is set to reduce dot placement error.

A fluid ejection device includes an orifice structure with an orifice. A fluid reservoir is on the exterior surface of the orifice structure. A barrier portion is between the fluid reservoir and the orifice.

Fluid ejection device

A fluid ejection device includes a fluid chamber, a fluid restriction communicated with the fluid chamber, and a fluid channel communicated with the fluid restriction. The fluid restriction has a fluid restriction parameter defined as (2*W+2*H)*L/(H*W), wherein W is a width of the fluid restriction, H is a height of the fluid restriction, and L is a length of the fluid restriction. As such, the fluid restriction parameter is in a range of 1.5 to 5.75.

A light-filtering element for a display device is provided. The element includes at least one filter having a chamber with a filtering fluid, the filtering fluid selectively disposed in an optical path, and a liquid motion actuator selectively configured to move the filtering fluid substantially into and out of the optical path.

Color-generating device and display system

A system and a method for improving printing performance are provided. One method of improving printing performance performing a first print operation utilizing a printhead comprising a plurality of resistors by ejecting ink from a plurality of chambers each associated with at least one of at least some of the plurality of resistors, selectively energizing at least some of the plurality of resistors at an energy level insufficient to eject ink from the plurality of chambers, and performing a second print operation utilizing the printhead.

One exemplary embodiment includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface, the substrate defines a fluid supply conduit between the first surface and the second surface. This particular fluid ejecting device also includes a generally elastic filter layer formed over the first surface where the filter layer does not form sidewalls defining a fluid channel of the fluid ejection device.

A fluid ejecting printhead including a substrate having a surface, and a columnar group of drop generators formed on the surface that are arranged into subgroups, each subgroup being fluidically isolated from other subgroups on the surface. Firing pulses are provided to the drop generators such that no two drop generators in the same subgroup are activated in sequence.

Filter for a display system

A printhead for an inkjet printer having geometric features which reduce drop placement error of main and satellite drops ejected from the nozzles of the printhead. Nozzles that are tilted along an axis corresponding to the direction of scanning of the printhead while printing have reduced drop placement error in the orthogonal direction to the scanning, and create a breakoff velocity for the satellite drop that can cause the main and satellite drops to be placed in a coincident location on the medium in one of the directions of scanning, thus forming desireable round printed spots and reducing drop placement error in the scan direction. These improvements can be repeatably achieved for all nozzles. Nozzles with non-circular and asymmetric bores also reduce drop placement errors, particularly when these types of nozzles are also tilted.
