Methods and systems are provided for mitigating loss of engine torque due to cavitation in a fuel pump. One example approach is adjusting engine operation or fuel pump operation based on ambient conditions and a measured engine torque being lower than a desired engine torque after a pre-determined duration. The ambient conditions may include one or more of ambient temperature being higher than a temperature threshold, barometric pressure lower than a threshold pressure, and fuel volatility higher than a threshold volatility.

The embodiments described herein include a control system and method for a vehicle. In one embodiment, the control system is able to determine the occurrence of NVH anomalies due to gear lash and control the operation of various vehicle devices to reduce the effects of gear lash. If such NVH anomalies are foreseen, a predetermined torque is applied to the vehicle wheels for a predetermined time period. Subsequently, the applied torque is gradually increased until a creep torque is reached.

A control method and system for a hybrid electric vehicle powertrain is disclosed. A filtered, profiled battery power modifier is used in calculating a final desired wheel power. Unstable battery power oscillations are avoided when a change in driver power demand is made. The effect of engine torque disturbances also is avoided during steady state operation when desired battery power is between limiting charge or discharge values.
