A digital image capture device streams captured images (e.g. low-resolution images) to a remote viewer terminal, along with image identifiers and/or device position information. The remote viewer terminal displays the images for viewing by a remote viewer. The remote viewer provides inputs to a user interface, which indicate a direction of desired movement of the image capture device, and/or that the remote viewer wants new images (e.g. high-resolution images) to be captured at a desired position. The user interface inputs are translated into requests, which are transmitted to the image capture device. The image capture device provides movement prompts that direct a device operator to move the device in a requested direction or toward a requested position. When a position of the device corresponds to a requested image capture position, the image capture device captures one or more new images, and transmits the new images.

Method and apparatus for remotely controlling an image capture position of a camera

Embodiments include apparatus and methods to compensate for overshoot of a desired field of vision (FOV) by a remotely-controlled image capture device. The image capture device produces images associated with a plurality of FOVs, and transmits the images to a remote viewer terminal along with image identifiers (or FOV definitions for the images). The terminal receives and displays the images to a viewer. In response to viewer indications to pan or stop panning, the terminal sends pan and regress commands, respectively, to the image capture device. A regress command includes a reference to a selected FOV (e.g., an image identifier or an FOV definition). In response to receiving a regress command, the image capture device regresses to the selected FOV, and transmits additional images associated with the selected FOV to the terminal. The system also may include an intermediary device, which performs some of the functions associated with overshoot compensation.

Methods and apparatus to compensate for overshoot of a desired field of vision by a remotely-controlled image capture device

A method and system for transferring an ongoing communication session from one application server (AS) to another is described. Multiple ASs are monitored and serviced by a Transfer Management Module (TMM). Each of the ASs serves a different network and each network includes various end devices. During an ongoing communication session, whether the session is to continue using the current AS is determined based on a set of rules. If the session is to be transferred, an alternative AS that provides the same application as the current AS is selected using a set of conditions. Upon selection of the alternative AS, the current AS transfers the control and/or media state of the ongoing session for one to all users through the TMM to the selected AS, and the session is continued.

Method and system for transferring a communication session

A method and apparatus provides for multiparty participation and management in text messaging sessions. The method includes a server establishing a text messaging session, which establishes a media path for exchanging text messages between a caller device and a single device having a device identifier known to the caller device, wherein the session is established in response to a call from the caller device. The server further joins multiple responding devices to the text messaging session, receives text messages from the multiple responding devices, and sends, over the media path to the caller device, a set of text messages based on the text messages received from the multiple responding devices.

Method and apparatus for providing multiparty participation and management for a text message session

In an emergency response system, a first set of information is used to determine (i) a first set of operator positions to whom an emergency call can be sent and (ii) an identify of a first operator identifier for each operator position in the first set of operator positions based on a set of rules. The first operator identifier for each operator position in the first set of operator positions is mapped with a second operator identifier known to a second system. A subset of the first set of operator positions is determined based on the set of rules using real-time operator information obtained from the second system associated with each of the second operator identifiers. The real-time operator information is different from the first set of information. The emergency call is routed to at least one operator position in the second set of operator positions.

A device receives a motion-based affiliation request message and, upon receipt, enters an affiliation motion detection state. If an affiliation motion is detected while in the detection state, a message is sent to a server. The message comprises a request to affiliate to a communication group and/or an indication that the device has detected the affiliation motion. From the perspective of the server, a motion-based affiliation initiation request message is received, and based on the message, at least one device is determined to receive a motion-based affiliation request message. The server sends the affiliation request message to the device and determines whether a message was received. The message comprises one of a request to affiliate to the communication group and/or an indication that the device has detected an affiliation motion. If a message was received, affiliation of the device to the communication group is initiated.

An actionable communication resource forming function performs a method for forming an actionable communication resource in a communication system. The method includes receiving, from a resource management system, a plurality of resource identifiers that identify a plurality of resources, wherein each resource is associated with a communication device addressable by a communication system using a communication device identifier; for each resource identifier, determining the communication device identifier for the associated communication device; for each communication device identifier, identifying a communication group to which the corresponding communication device is affiliated, and using the identified communication groups to determine a set of communication groups, wherein each communication group in the set is addressable by the communication system, wherein an actionable communication resource is formed from the set of communication groups to facilitate communications with the communication devices over the communication system using the addressable communication groups.

The session controller: receives () a message requesting a session that includes an SDP packet with a requested floor control profile having a requested set of floor control parameters or a requested list of potential floor owners; accepts () the session; determines () a final floor control profile having a final set of floor control parameters and a final list of potential floor owners; and communicates at least a portion of the floor control profile within a system (). The endpoint terminal: communicates a message requesting a session that includes an SDP packet with a requested floor control profile; and receives a message having an SDP packet with a final floor control parameter. The final floor control profile may be the same as or different from the requested floor control profile.

A method for identifying and conveying a role of a first user relative to a second user in a communication comprises using a communication server to determine an identity of the first user, determine an identity of the second user, determine a relationship between the first user and the second user, determine an associated role with the first user relative to the relationship between the first user and the second user, and convey the associated role of the first user relative to the relationship to the second user. The communication server receives an indication that a communication between the users is initiated. The communication server and/or a source are configured for tracking one or more of the identities, relationships, and roles of the first and second users. Each user may have a plurality of roles and the identity and roles may by fixed or dynamically assigned.

In a communications system having at least one service entity and a plurality of endpoints each including a logical entity and a terminal, a method facilitates a session between at least two of the endpoints in the system. The method includes: receiving a first message having information that includes a request for a session between a first endpoint that includes a non-dispatch terminal and at least one other endpoint; detecting that the first endpoint includes a non-dispatch terminal as a function of the first endpoint being unable to perform at least one function; and causing the at least one function to be performed on behalf of the first endpoint by the at least one service entity to facilitate the session between the first endpoint and the at least one other endpoint.

System and method for controlling and managing sessions between endpoints in a communications system

A first communication device managing a communication group of communication devices in a communication network is disclosed. The first communication device sends one or more data objects to the communication group and receives an affiliation request from a second communication device. The first communication device determines the one or more data objects that have not been received by a user of the second communication device and provides the data objects to the second communication device by establishing a communication session between the second communication device and the first communication device.

A communication server implements a method that minimizes bandwidth usage between a media device and the communication server in a communication system where separate session and floor control protocols are used. Where multiple clients have established separate sessions to access a media source at a media device and upon determining that the multiple clients are attempting to access the same media source, the communication server implements floor control logic to tie multiple floor arbiters together across the separate sessions to cause a single media stream to be sent from the media source and received at the communication server for distribution to the clients, thereby minimizing the bandwidth on the uplink between the media device and the communication server.

Using this received information, the shared wireless network QoS manager: determines a total capacity of each cell that is needed to satisfy a total resource need on a cell by cell basis for the local QoS managers; and based on a maximum capacity for each cell, allocates to each local QoS manager a percentage of their total resource need.

A method and system for establishing floor control in a communication session enables remote control of devices in a network and provides a status update concerning floor ownership. The method includes processing at a floor controller a floor request message received from a first endpoint, where the floor request message requests that floor ownership be provided to a second endpoint (step). A floor control announcement message is then transmitted from the floor controller to at least both the first endpoint and the second endpoint, where the floor control announcement message indicates that the second endpoint has floor ownership (step).
