The compound below may be used in a fire-fighting formulation along with a poly(glucoside)-alkane, a poly(ethylene glycol) monoalkyl ether, and water. The value n is 2 or 3, R is a C3-C9 alkylene group, X is —O— or —N(COCH)—, and c is a positive integer. It may be made by reacting a polysaccharide with acetic anhydride, propargyl alcohol, and an azidoalkyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane or an azidoalkylbis(trimethylsiloxy)methylsilane. Alternatively, it may be made by reacting a polysaccharide with propargylamine, acetic anhydride, and an azidoalkyltris(trimethylsiloxy)silane or an azidoalkylbis(trimethylsiloxy)methylsilane.

A method for making thermosetting polyimides from resveratrol including converting resveratrol to trisaniline, reacting trisaniline with one or more dianhydride and thermosetting endcap to form amic acid, thermally imidizing amic acid to form polyimide oligomer, and cross-linking polyimide oligomer with heat and pressure to generate polyimide thermoset.

A method for making a cyanate ester resin includes reacting an arylorganometallic agent with a phosphorous halide in a solvent forming methoxy functionalized triphenylphosphines with one to six meta-methoxy groups. The methoxy functionalized triphenylphosphines with one to six meta-methoxy groups are reacted with an oxidizing agent forming a methoxy functionalized triphenylphosphine oxide including one to six meta-methoxy groups. The methoxy functionalized triphenylphosphine oxide is reacted with a dealkylating agent forming a hydroxy substituted triphenylphosphineoxide including one to six meta-hydroxyl groups. The hydroxy substituted triphenylphosphineoxide is reacted with cyanating reagent and a base forming a substituted triphenylphosphine oxide including one to six meta-cyanate groups. The substituted triphenylphosphine oxide is polymerized forming the cyanate ester resin.

Cyanate ester resin

A diamondoid fuel comprising a cage structure including 10, 14, 18, or 22 carbons. The diamondoid fuel also includes one of one to four cyclopropyl groups bonded to the cage structure or two to four functional groups bonded to the cage structure where the functional groups are an alkyl group, an allyl group, a cyclopropyl group, or combinations thereof. Additionally, at least one functional group is an allyl group and at least one functional group is a cyclopropyl group.

Diamondoid fuels

The invention generally relates to novel poly-substituted cis stilbenes, their synthesis, their purification, and their use in thermoset resins. These novel cis stilbenes give rise to thermoset resins with greatly improved processing characteristics such as lower melting temperature and lower viscosity; resulting in polymers and composites having greatly improved thermal stability.

Low melting and low viscosity thermoset matrix resins from the Z configuration of polyhydroxy stilbenes

A method of making fuel including adding alcohol to a reactor with a zinc dihalide salt and heating the reactor to reflux, thereby forming a mixture. Water is removed from the mixture using azeotropic distillation. The mixture is distilled, thereby forming oligo(alkenes)and residual alcohol. The oligo(alkenes)are distilled using fractionation, thereby forming a first, a second, a third fraction, and removing the residual alcohol. The first fraction includes oligo(alkenes)with n ranging from 2 to 4, the second fraction includes oligo(alkenes)with n ranging from 4 to 8, and the third fraction includes oligo(alkenes)with n ranging from 8 to 12. The first, second, and third fractions are hydrogenated, thereby forming oligo(alkanes). The first fraction includes oligo(alkanes)with n ranging from 2 to 4, the second fraction includes oligo(alkanes)with n ranging from 4 to 8, and the third fraction includes oligo(alkanes)with n ranging from 8 to 12.

A method for preparing fire resistant polymeric materials including, providing at least one first polyphenol having three or more phenolic groups, reacting at least one first polyphenol having three or more phenolic groups with at least one halophosphate and at least one first base to produce at least one second phenol having at least one phosphate group, and converting at least one second phenol having at least one phosphate group to a thermoplastic or thermosetting fire resistant polymeric material.

A cured polycyanurate, thermoset resins, and methods of producing the same that will have both high thermal resistance as well as high hydrophobicity. Naturally occurring 5-alkylresorcinols and synthetic analogs can be made into cyanate ester. Composites made from these products will have greater durability against atmospheric water exposure. Applications include use in fiber-reinforced composite materials for lightweight, strong, and water-resistant aerospace components.

High temperature materials with low moisture uptake made from lichen metabolites

A method to generate renewable high performance composites and thermoplastics. These materials can be generated from a renewable phenol (syringaldehyde) that can be derived from lignocellulosic biomass. The use of syringaldehyde as a precursor to composites has the potential to reduce the cost and environmental impact of structural materials, while meeting or exceeding the performance of current petroleum derived resins.
