A turbocharger bearing housing is disclosed. The turbocharger bearing housing comprises a main body extending radially outwardly forming a turbine end. The turbine end is formed having a complementary geometry with a turbine wheel. A passage is formed extending through the bearing housing to allow fluid communication with the exterior of the bearing housing.

A turbocharger includes a turbine housing including an interior surface defining a turbine housing interior. The interior surface extends between a turbine housing inlet and a turbine housing outlet. The turbine housing also includes a wastegate duct disposed downstream of the turbine housing inlet and defining a wastegate channel. The turbocharger also includes a valve seat disposed about the wastegate channel, with the valve seat having a valve seat plane extending along the valve seat. The turbocharger further includes a wastegate assembly including a valve element engageable with the valve seat. The wastegate channel extends along a channel axis, and the channel axis is obliquely oriented with respect to the valve seat plane such that the wastegate channel and the valve element are configured to direct exhaust gas to a catalytic converter.

Wastegate assembly for use in a turbocharger and system including the same

A turbocharger includes a turbine housing. The turbine housing includes a turbine inlet wall defining an inlet passage, an exducer shroud wall defining an exducer interior, a turbine outlet wall defining an outlet passage, a wastegate port wall defining a wastegate channel, and a bushing wall coupled to the wastegate port wall and defining a bushing boss extending along a bushing axis, and a valve seat disposed about the wastegate channel. The turbocharger also includes a wastegate assembly. The wastegate assembly includes a valve element engageable with the valve seat. The wastegate port wall is disposed outside of the exducer interior such that the wastegate port wall and the bushing wall are configured to be thermally decoupled from the turbine inlet wall and such that relative displacement between the valve seat and the bushing axis is reduced during operation of the turbocharger.

Turbine housing of a turbocharger

A turbocharger includes a turbine housing and a wastegate assembly. The turbine housing has a wastegate duct defining a wastegate channel and a valve seat disposed about the wastegate channel. The wastegate assembly has a valve body engageable with the valve seat and a shaft fixed to the valve body at a connection interface for selectively engaging the valve body with the valve seat at a first plane. The connection interface has a centroid and a second plane tangential to the centroid. A second axis is normal to the second plane and is angularly tilted relative to a first axis normal to the first plane at which the valve body and the valve seat are engaged.

Turbocharger including a wastegate assembly

A wastegate assembly includes a valve arm moveable between a first position and a second position to control flow of exhaust gas to a turbine housing interior of a turbocharger. The valve arm includes a proximal end, a distal end spaced from the proximal end, and a valve arm orientation projection spaced from the distal end and extending away from the proximal end. The wastegate assembly also includes a valve body coupled to the distal end of the valve arm that is moveable with the valve arm. The valve body includes a valve body orientation component, and the orientation projection of the valve arm extends toward and is orientable with the orientation component of the valve body to orient the valve arm relative to the valve body. The valve body is disposed between the orientation projection of the valve arm and the distal end of the valve arm.

Wastegate assembly and turbocharger including the same

A turbocharger assembly may include a turbine wheel. A turbine housing may surround at least part of the turbine wheel. A wastegate port may be defined by the turbine housing and may provide a bypass around the turbine wheel. A valve plate may be movable between a first position closing the wastegate port and a number of additional positions opening the wastegate port. The valve plate may have a face that faces the wastegate port. A shaft may be connected to the valve plate and may rotate about an axis at a pivot point. The pivot point may be located on an opposite side of a line from the valve plate, wherein the line may extend from the face and in a plane within which the face exists when the wastegate port is closed by the valve plate.

Reverse offset wastegate valve assembly for improved catalyst light-off performance

An asymmetric twin scroll turbinecombined with an integrated exhaust manifold cylinder headmay be designed to accommodate mixed, radial or axial flow turbines. The asymmetric twin scroll turbineincludes a first scrolland second scrollwherein the first scrollis larger and has greater mass flow capacity than the second scroll. The larger volute increases flow capacity and counteracts backpressure creating evenly balanced or equalized peak pressures and pulsations between both volutes and balancing of gas flow between cylinder sets. By equalizing peak pressures, pulsations, and gas flow between cylinder sets, engine self-ignition can be avoided in the cylinder set that would have had the largest peak pressures and pulsations. By in creasing flow capacity of the larger volute and balancing gas flow between cylinder sets, the turbine pressure differential is reduced and the engine can operate more efficiently, improving fuel economy.

Asymmetric twin scroll volute

The disclosure describes a compressor housing for a turbocharger system. A scroll section of a collecting volute may be defined by a wall of the compressor housing. The scroll section may extend around the axis of the compressor from an inlet of the volute to a scroll discharge stage. A plate section of the compressor housing may extend from the wall in a radial direction outward from the axis and may extend in a circumferential direction around a substantial portion of the collecting volute. The plate section may be configured to shield heat and may advantageously be formed integral with the compressor housing.
