An apparatus for inking a surgical instrument includes an inking capsule, which comprises a base and a vertical wall extending from the base to define a cavity. The inking capsule has a first opening opposite the base, an ink reservoir disposed within the cavity, where the ink reservoir has ink disposed therein. The ink reservoir comprises a second opening proximate a top portion of the ink reservoir, and a penetrable seal covering the second opening to seal the ink in the ink reservoir when the seal is in an unbroken state.

The aquarium or terrarium light systems simulates rising and setting of the sun. A housing contains two lamps, one variable lumen output for graduated light output and the other for full ON or OFF lighting. The light fixture contains a timer/dimming unit to variably increase power/voltage to the first lamp (variable output) and then to supply full ON power to the second lamp. The timer turns ON-OFF the second lamp late in the sunrise cycle and then early in the sunset cycle.

As part of a method of producing a customized chart for use with chart recorder apparatus, a user desiring the customized chart is provided with a list of questions including, for example, the size of the chart; the graduations of the chart with respect to a first chart dimension; and the graduations of the chart with respect to a second chart dimension. The questions are input to a software applications program operative to generate a datafile containing a graphical representation of the desired chart based upon the answers received. The datafile is delivered to a printing facility, where the chart is physically produced in accordance with the data file, then delivered to the user. One or more of the steps associated with the method may be carried out over a remote communications link such as a telephone to enhance convenience. For example, the step of inputting the answers may take place over a communications link from a remote location using phone lines and voice, modem or Internet protocols. Likewise, the step of delivering the datafile to a printing facility may similarly occur over a communications link in electronic form. In the case of a circular chart, the list of questions might specifically include the diameter of the chart; the direction of rotation of the chart; the speed of rotation of the chart; the radial graduations of the chart; and the time graduations of the chart. The list of questions may further be altered in accordance with the end application.

Method of producing a customized chart

A single actuator moves the chart and the marking implement in a chart recorder. A first drive means is used for advancing the chart to be recorded upon, a second drive means is used to move the marking implement, and an electromechanical actuator, responsive to an input signal, coupled to both the first and second drive means, exhibits a first direction of movement causing the marking implement to move and the chart to advance, and a second direction of movement causing only the marking implement to move. The electromechanical actuator preferably takes the form of a bidirectional stepper motor, though other types of motors and actuators such as solenoids may alternatively be utilized. Although useful with other types of chart recorders such as strip-chart recorders, the invention is particularly well suited to circular charts, since the shaft of the motor may be coupled to the chart movement mechanism by way of a rotatable disk. A second rotatable disk may be coupled to the same shaft to move the marking implement, typically a pen supported on a pivoting arm though the invention is not restricted in this regard. A ratcheting mechanism is used to ensure that the chart advances in a single direction. Methods of operation are also disclosed.

Chart recorder with single actuator for paper and pen movements

An improved chart recorder integrates a variety of flexible control functions, including the ability to program a plurality of set points, which are advantageously made visually apparent on the chart recorder paper and used for direct equipment control. In a preferred embodiment, a reversible stepper motor is used in conjunction with an operator input, enabling a user to incrementally advance one or more pens in two dimensions in conjunction with paper travel. The chart paper may further optionally include a machine-readable code containing chart-related information, including scale resolution, with the recorder being programmed to detect and interpret the machine-readable code and adjust pen movement to ensure compatibility with the scale resolution. By providing a single unit which both indicates set points and delivers control outputs in accordance therewith, ambiguity is removed as to which piece of equipment may be responsible in the event of a malfunction, since the chart recorder may, itself, communicate all relevant information.

Combined chart recorder and device controller

The present invention is a technique for operator entry of a time program into a programmable device. An operator adjustable input device having associated time indicia is employed to enter a time signal indicative of a time a selected time. A manual control state input device enables selection of one a control state. When the programmable device is in a program mode the selected control state is stored in a program memory at a location corresponding to the selected time. This program memory stores a program of control states for particular times. When in a control mode a clock signal indicative of the current time permits recall of the control state for the current time, thus permitting control in accordance with the recalled control state. In accordance with the preferred embodiment the programmable device is an electronic thermostat. The operator adjustable input device enables input of the times for storage of temperature offsets in the program mode and enables input of a set point temperature in the control mode. The thermostat control function seeks to maintain the temperature at the sum of the set point temperature and the temperature offset for the current time.
