A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a device that determines a movement of a first communication device toward a local device until a presence of the first communication device is within a vicinity of the local device. In response to the presence of the first communication device being within the vicinity of the local device, a textual transcription of a voice call between the first communication device and a second communication device is presented on a display device communicatively coupled to the local device. Apparatus and method for providing enhanced telephonic communications

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a device that facilitates presentation of a textual transcription of an audio portion of an active voice call between a first communication device and a second communication device on a first display device. A presence of the first communication device being nearby local device is detected during the active voice call. In response to the detecting of the presence, the facilitating of the presentation of the textual transcription on the first display device is discontinued, wherein the textual transcription is provided to the local device for presentation on a second display device. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, device that determines a presence of a first communication device being nearby and engaged in an active voice call with a second communication device. An offer to transcribe a portion of the active voice call is presented in response to the determination. An audio portion of the active voice call is transcribed in response to an acceptance of the offer, to generate a textual transcription. The textual transcription is provided for presentation on a first display device. In response to detecting a presence of the first communication device being nearby another device, provision of the textual transcription to the first display device is discontinued, while the textual transcription is provided to the other device for presentation at a second display device. A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, receiving over a communication network audio voice data originating from a telephony communication session established between a first communication device and a second communication device, transcribing the audio voice data to a text transcription, detecting a presence of a first communication device in the vicinity of a media processor device, and presenting the text transcription on a display communicatively coupled to a media processor device in response to the detected presence of a first communication device.
