An example includes accessing multiple configurations stored in a memory, where each configuration is associated with a corresponding circuit function implementable by an electronic device and associated with a corresponding set of resources of the electronic device. The example includes determining that one or more sets of resources of the electronic device are available for use by one or more configurations of the multiple configurations. Based on the determination, an embodiment includes representing a first configuration of the one or more configurations, using a graphical interface, and generating instructions that when executed cause the electronic device to be configured according the first configurations.

Techniques for generating microcontroller configuration information

A method of generating an application programming interface (API) for an electronic circuit. A graphical user interface is displayed through which a user can initiate generation of the API. A component is selected from a plurality of components for placement in said electronic circuit. The component represents an implementable function in the electronic circuit. The component is configured using the graphical user interface. The data pertaining to the selected component and the configuration of the component is stored. The graphical user interface is utilized to access the stored data. The interface is initiated to invoke a processing of said data which causes a generation of the application programming interface. The application interface is for controlling the function of the component in said electronic circuit.

Automatic API generation to functional PSoC blocks

A method and apparatus for configuring a microcontroller. An XML description of the microcontroller's hardware resources may be accessed. A user may select from available hardware resources and pre-defined user modules to select a configuration. Configuration information, which may include register bit patterns and microprocessor instructions, may be automatically generated. Additionally, application programming interface calls and structure, as well as interrupt vector tables may be automatically generated.

Embodiments for an interface, system and method enabling dynamic reconfiguration of an electronic device are disclosed. The interface enables operations, such as adding or deleting a device configuration and switching between different device configuration views/workspaces. In some embodiments, the system and method apply global device parameter values to each device configuration and/or allow only valid or legal states for device configurations beyond the first configuration. In another embodiment, the electronic device includes a microprocessor, a plurality of internal peripherals, an interconnecting component, an external coupling port, and a memory for storing instructions. The plurality of internal peripherals, the interconnecting component and the external coupling port are programmably configurable to perform a variety of functions. The instructions stored by the memory facilitate dynamic reconfiguration of the electronic device. Based upon the existence of a predetermined condition, the electronic device is automatically reconfigured by activating different configuration images.

Graphical user interface for dynamically reconfiguring a programmable device

One disclosed system and method enables dynamic reconfiguration of an electronic device in association with testing activities in a convenient and efficient manner. In one implementation, the electronic device includes a bus for communicating information, a microprocessor for processing data, a programmable functional component including a plurality of functional blocks programmable to provide a plurality of functions and configurations, and a memory for storing instructions including instructions for causing the programmable functional component to change functions and configurations. The components are programmably configurable to perform a variety of functions. In one example, the memory stores a plurality of configuration images that define the configuration and functionality of the circuit. The information stored in the memory facilitates dynamic reconfiguration of the circuit in accordance with the test harness instructions. Based upon a command from a test computer, the electronic device is automatically reconfigured by the test harness activating different configuration images.

Automatic application programming interface (API) generation for functional blocks

The present invention system and method enables dynamic reconfiguration of an electronic device with appropriate interrupts in a convenient and efficient manner. A plurality of internal peripherals, an interconnecting component and the external coupling ports are programmably configurable to perform a variety of functions with different interrupts. In response to interrupt request names that are utilized in multiple configurations, an interrupt dispatcher component directs operations to an appropriate interrupt handler for a particular configuration based upon both the configuration image and the interrupt service request indicator. The electronic device can be automatically reconfigured based upon the existence of a predetermined condition by activating different configuration images and associated interrupts are automatically included. Pending interrupt state indicators are resolved (e.g., deleted) during the reconfiguration.

Dynamic reconfiguration interrupt system and method

A method to facilitate programming a microcontroller is disclosed. In one embodiment, after a user configures the circuit by selecting circuit parameters and pin-outs, various items are automatically generated to facilitate programming the microcontroller. The generated items may include: application programming interfaces (APIs) for programming the operation of one or more user modules; source code for realizing the user modules in hardware; interrupt vectors to call interrupt service routines for one or more modules; and a data sheet for the circuit.

Automatic generation of application program interfaces, source code, interrupts, and datasheets for microcontroller programming

A method to program a microcontroller using a software program. First a user selects a module from a catalog of available modules. The module may be for implementing an amplifier, timer, pulse width modulator, etc. This causes information related to the selected module to be displayed. For example, a schematic and data sheet for the selected module may be displayed. Next, the user requests a position and places the selected module in a graphical user interface, which represents the resources available to implement the available modules. For example, the resources may be programmable system blocks. Additional user modules may then be selected and placed. The user then configures the circuit by selecting circuit parameters for the user modules (e.g., amplifier gain), pin configurations, and interconnections between programmable system blocks. The user may then edit source code used to cause the user modules to perform their functions.

Method for designing a circuit for programmable microcontrollers

The present invention system and method enables dynamic reconfiguration of an electronic device in a convenient and efficient manner. In one embodiment, the electronic device includes a microprocessor, a plurality of internal peripherals, an interconnecting component, an external coupling port, and a memory for storing instructions. The plurality of internal peripherals, the interconnecting component and the external coupling port are programmably configurable to perform a variety of functions. System and method of dynamically reconfiguring a programmable integrated circuit

A method to facilitate circuit design. First, a schematic and data sheet for a selected module may be displayed. Next, in response to a request for a position for the module among available resources (e.g., programmable system blocks), a potential position for the module is computed. The position is displayed on a graphical user interface by mapping the module to one or more programmable system blocks. Additional user modules may then be selected and placed. After allowing the user to configure the circuit by selecting circuit parameters and pin-outs, various items are automatically generated to facilitate programming the target device. For example, application programming interfaces (APIs) for programming an operation of the modules, source code for realizing the modules in the resources, an interrupt vector table, and a data sheet for the circuit may be automatically generated.

Method for facilitating microcontroller programming

The present invention is a system and method of facilitating automatic generation of the source code in a convenient and efficient manner. In one embodiment of the present invention, a programmable system on a chip (PSoC) boot file generation method is utilized to create a boot file. A boot template file is created comprising special symbolic variable names that point to configuration registers within a programmable system on a chip (PSoC). User module selections are received with delineation of preferred configurations and functions associated with components of said programmable system on a chip (PSoC). Application files are automatically generated based upon user selections of PSoC configurations and functions. The special symbolic variable names are substituted or replaced with actual configuration register names. In one embodiment, a present invention programmable system on a chip (PSOC) boot file generation method also facilitates providing interrupt processing routines to the appropriate vector.
