A system for updating management entities or devices in a computer system network with configuration change information from the devices being managed. The management entities are configured to discover, monitor and configure managed devices, such as storage systems, connected to the network. Preferably, the managed devices include a comparator which can track changes made to the managed device configuration or properties and report that change back to the various management entities. In this way, the management entities can keep track of the configurations of the various devices that they manage, even though they might not be responsible for issuing the configuration change. This can be accomplished even when managed devices developed by different manufacturers according to different standards or protocols are involved.

Methods and apparatus for issuing updates to multiple management entities

A method of configuring a plurality of managed devices. The method preferably includes selecting a source managed device, obtaining a source configuration description from the source managed device, selecting one or more destination managed devices to be configured, issuing a configuration change command to each of the selected destination managed devices and applying the source configuration description selected from the source managed device to each of the selected destination managed devices. In addition, the method may further include the step of editing the source configuration description before issuing the configuration change commands to the one or more destination managed devices.

Methods and apparatus for performing mass operations on a plurality of managed devices on a network

A method and apparatus for automatically filling in electronic forms online with a user's personal data. A location identifier, such as a URL, of a form originating server and a form location on the server that corresponds to an online form is transmitted to a form filling server. A user identifier, such as one contained in a cookie, is also transmitted to the form filling server. The location identifier of the form originating server and the location of the form on the form filling server is decoded or parsed on the form filling server. This allows the form filling server to open a connection between the form filling server and the form originating server. The form originating server is then requested to provide the form filling server with the online form so that the form filling server has a similar view of the online form as the user does. The online form is then parsed on the form filling server to identify the fields in the form that can potentially be filled in with personal data associated with the user. The personal data associated with the user is then inserted into the fields of the online form on the form filling server. The personal data of the user is identified using the user identifier.

Selective proxy approach to filling-in forms embedded in distributed electronic documents

Apparatus, methods, and computer program products are disclosed for constructing and transmitting an executable software module on a personal information server to a remote computer. The software module is constructed such that once received by a browser displaying a form, it is executed and user data is automatically inserted into an electronic form. The software module contains field names from a downloaded form and matching data items which are inserted into the form on the remote user computer. A method for constructing a shippable software module on a personal information server suitable for execution on a remote computer for inserting data strings into an electronic form is described. A form mapping containing a set of associations between fields in the electronic form (&ldquo;non-standard fields&rdquo;) and pre-named fields (&ldquo;standard fields&rdquo;) on the personal information server is retrieved. Each mapping is associated with a registered electronic form. A raw data file containing data strings, each data string corresponding to a pre-named field is retrieved. Each raw data file is associated with a registered user. The form mapping is utilized to attach a data string to the field in the electronic form where the pre-named field and the field in the electronic form have been previously matched or mapped.

Server for enabling the automatic insertion of data into electronic forms on a user computer

Methods and associated systems using probabilistic methods for selecting among a plurality of diagnostic procedures to recover from an error condition in a managed device. Operation of a managed device is overseen by a management device. A management client process operable within the management device communicates with a management service operable within the managed device. Upon detection of an error condition within the managed device, the management service propagates an event to the management client so indicating an error condition. The management client in the management device responds to the event by requesting the managed device to determine the best options for recovery procedures. The managed device then computes a probability of success for each known recovery procedure based upon the present state of the managed device and based upon past successes or failures of recovery procedures for particular error conditions. A list of each recovery procedure and its associated probability is returned to the management device. A user or client process then selects a desired procedure to attempt to correct the error condition in cooperation with the managed device. The process then repeats, recomputing the probability values for each recovery procedures, as needed until the problem is successfully resolved by a selected recovery procedure.
