Devices, systems and methods for widefield three-dimensional (3D) microscopy with a quantum entanglement light source are described. An example method includes generating a first set of photons and a second set of photons, wherein each of the photons in the first set is quantum entangled with a corresponding photon in the second set, directing the second set of photons toward a sample and simultaneously directing the first set of photons toward a first two-dimensional (2D) detector, detecting, from the sample, a plurality of photons at a second 2D detector, analyzing detections from the first and second 2D detectors to determine coincidence information, and determining one or more characteristics associated with at least a three-dimensional (3D) section of the sample based on collective detections at the first and the second 2D detectors.

The disclosed technology can be used to increase lifetimes of quantum coherent devices such as qubits including transmons and xmons and to reduce the losses in resonators. Energy stored in superconducting devices can be lost by emission of phonons that couple to the environment. Defects in one or more materials in the quantum coherent device can cause the coupling to phonons. Patterning one or more of the layers creates a phononic bandgap that reduces or eliminates the emission of the phonons to the environment. The energy then couples back to the quantum coherent device.

A space object modeling system that models the evolution of space debris is provided. The modeling system simulates interaction of space objects at simulation times throughout a simulation period. The modeling system includes a propagator that calculates the position of each object at each simulation time based on orbital parameters. The modeling system also includes a collision detector that, for each pair of objects at each simulation time, performs a collision analysis. When the distance between objects satisfies a conjunction criterion, the modeling system calculates a local minimum distance between the pair of objects based on a curve fitting to identify a time of closest approach at the simulation times and calculating the position of the objects at the identified time. When the local minimum distance satisfies a collision criterion, the modeling system models the debris created by the collision of the pair of objects.
