Implementations of the subject technology provide for a microphone in the front volume of a speaker. The speaker and the microphone may be provided in a single speaker assembly. The microphone may be implemented as an error microphone or a feedback microphone. The microphone may be mounted to a speaker frame of the speaker, with a sound-sensitive element of the microphone in the front volume of the speaker on a first side of the speaker frame, and with conductive contacts for the microphone disposed on an opposing second side of the speaker frame.

Implementations of the subject technology provide an acoustic module with fins integrated within the acoustic module to reduce acoustic noise. Airflow caused by pressure changes due to an oscillating diaphragm can be diverted by the fins within the acoustic module. The diverted airflow provide a more uniform airflow distribution within the acoustic module, which leads to a lower peak velocity and less unwanted noise. Fins may include a curved or crescent shape and may be spaced in a certain manner to divert the airflow.

A portable electronic device comprising: an enclosure having an enclosure wall that forms an interior chamber and a sound output port to an ambient environment; a speaker positioned within the interior chamber, the speaker having a front volume chamber coupling a sound output surface of the speaker to the sound output port and a back volume chamber acoustically coupled to the interior chamber by an aperiodic vent; and a valve operable to open and close the aperiodic vent in response to a pressure change.

Implementations of the subject technology provide vented audio transducers such as vented speakers. A speaker assembly may define a first volume under a dome of the speaker and a second volume under a surround of the speaker. The first volume and the second volume may be separated by a speaker structure such as a voice coil. By venting the first volume to the second volume, the disclosed vented speakers can provide a flatter response at high frequencies and lower distortion relative to conventional speakers, by equalizing the pressure under the diaphragm during operation.

This application relates to a portable electronic device including a processor and an operational component assembly, the operational component assembly including a frame. The frame carries a sensor that is coupled to the frame, where the sensor is capable of (i) receiving an environmental stimulus, and (ii) subsequently, generating an environmental parameter based on the environmental stimulus. The operational components further include a speaker that includes a magnetic driver that is capable of generating a magnetic field in response to receiving the instructions, and a diaphragm that is capable of actuating in response to the magnetic field being generated by the magnetic driver. An opening is disposed at an external surface of the frame such that when an amount of moisture is present within the volume, the magnetic driver receives the instructions from the processor to generate a magnetic field that actuates the diaphragm so as to expel the moisture.

An acoustic enclosure has a housing at least partially defining an acoustic chamber for an acoustic radiator. The housing defines an acoustic port from the acoustic chamber to a surrounding environment. An acoustic resonator has a first resonant chamber and a second resonant chamber. The acoustic resonator also has a first duct to acoustically couple the first resonant chamber with the acoustic chamber and a second duct to acoustically couple the second resonant chamber with the first resonant chamber. An electronic device can have an electro-acoustic transducer. Circuitry in the electronic device can drive the electro-acoustic transducer to emit sound over a selected frequency bandwidth. Damping provided by the first and the second resonant chambers can de-emphasize one or more frequencies and/or extend a frequency response of the acoustic enclosure to improve perceived sound quality emitted by the electronic device.

An electronic device whose enclosure or housing panel is used as part of an acoustic system is described. The panel is divided into several sub-panels. For each sub-panel, the device includes one or more actuators attached to vibrate the sub-panel. The actuator and its attached sub-panel convert an audio signal to acoustic output. Each actuator and sub-panel combination may receive a separate audio signal. The device includes a digital signal processor for controlling each of the sub-panel driving audio signals. The device may further include one or more backing frames that are attached to the panel to provide boundary conditions to the sub-panels. The boundary conditions define a resonance frequency for each sub-panel.

An electronic device including a frame member suitable for use with an audio driver is disclosed. The frame member may include a recessed region that receives the audio driver. The frame member may further include a flange member surrounding the recessed region. The frame member may be formed from a material having a relatively high coefficient of thermal conductivity. Accordingly, the frame member can dissipate thermal energy (heat) generated from the audio driver. In addition, the frame member may be seated in an enclosure of an electronic device in a manner that allows the frame member to pass the thermal energy to the enclosure. Also, the frame member may include a ferromagnetic material, which may cause the frame member to direct magnetic flux from a magnet of the audio driver in a desired manner.

One piece frame for a component in an electronic device

A computer system having a loudspeaker mounted on a main logic board by a hermetic seal, is disclosed. More particularly, embodiments of the computer system include an acoustic cavity defined between the loudspeaker, the main logic board, and the hermetic seal. Embodiments of the computer system may include a compressible seal separated from the hermetic seal by the loudspeaker and/or the main logic board. The compressible seal may define an acoustic channel and the loudspeaker may emit sound in a high frequency range through the acoustic channel toward a system exit. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
