Surveying device for the running parameters of railway bearings

A railway axle hub unit of the type including an axle box housing ( ) for supporting a bearing, is provided with a sensor body ( ) containing sensors ( ) for detecting vibration in the vertical direction and the horizontal axial direction. The sensor body is mounted onto a stationary support element ( ) rigidly secured to the bearing, preferably an annular sealing insert. The sensors perform monitoring of the operation condition of the hub unit by generating and transmitting signals indicative of the detected level of vibration to an electronic processing unit mounted on board of the railway vehicle or the train. The processing unit is capable of signalling in real time an impending failure and/or a damaged condition associated with the monitored hub unit.

Railway axle hub unit

The mounting element supports a sensor (,) to be positioned at the upper half of the annular insert (,) and a connector block (,), located at the lower half of the annular insert (,), and adapted for providing electrical connection between a wire (,) connected to the sensor (,) and a cable (,) connected to a further point remote from the bearing.

Device for mounting a sensor to a railway axle bearing unit

In a goods wagon axle bearing assembly of the type provided with a sealing device (20) at its axially outer end, the sealing device comprises a rigid, non-rotating shield (21). Integrated with the sealing device (20) is a current generator, consisting of a magnetised impulse generating ring (25) rotatably fast with one of the rotating parts (12) of the bearing, and a coil (24) operatively facing the magnetised impulse ring and secured to the non-rotating shield (21). The current induced in the coil (24) is supplied to a current drain point on the same goods wagon.

A composite annular element, in particular a magnetic ring usable as a pulse wheel in a rolling bearing of a vehicle wheel hub; the element includes an appropriately polarized plastoferrite ring co-molded onto a metal annular ring for fitment to a rotary member; the metal annular ring is formed in one piece by pressing and bending sheet metal, and presents a sleeve portion for fitment to the rotary member, and a flange portion defining a shoulder for withstanding the axial thrust exerted by an assembly fixture, and connected continuously to the sleeve portion by a rib projecting radially outwards of the sleeve portion; the rib being defined by a 180.degree. bend partially embedded inside the plastoferrite ring so as to leave a continuous annular radial clearance between the plastoferrite ring and the sleeve portion of the metal annular ring; and the rib preferably presenting locking means, which are embedded in the plastoferrite to prevent the metal annular ring and the plastoferrite ring from rotating in relation to each other.

A rolling bearing seal assembly with a built-in sensor; the bearing including a first ring rotating in relation to a second ring, and a number of rolling bodies interposed between the first ring and the second ring and housed in a chamber defined between the two rings; and the seal assembly including at least one shielding element for closing the chamber and located facing the chamber and outside the bearing, and at least one sensor housed inside a seat formed inside the shielding element.

A railway axle is described of the type in which a rolling element bearing is mounted within a seat defined between two members, a first of which rotates with respect to the second, and is provided, externally of the seat, with a sealing assembly adapted to protect respective rolling bodies of the bearing; an annular element of the sealing assembly is fixed for rotation with the rotating member of the axle and is provided with a plurality of permanently magnetized zones having substantially the same width circumferentially spaced from one another with substantially constant pitch; within the seat and close to the said annular element of the sealing assembly there is further provided a sensor carried by the fixed member of the axle and adapted to be activated by the transit past it of the said magnetized zones to generate a periodic signal having a frequency proportional to the number of these which transit past the sensor in unit time.
