A heating unit with a resistive element formed as a conducting pattern, which resistive element is bound to a substrate, such as a base plate, on which the resistive element is extended, and which resistive element is arranged to be placed under the influence of an electrical voltage. The invention is wherein the resistive element and the said base have the same or essentially the same coefficients of thermal expansion, and in that the resistive element has been bound to the substrate by sintering.

Heating unit comprising a heat resistance element shaped as a conductive pattern

A molybdenum silicide type-heating element and a method of manufacturing a heating element of the molybdenum silicide type. The heating element contains substantially Mo(SiAl)and AlOand is prepared by mixing a molybdenum aluminum silicide-type material Mo(SiAl)with SiO, wherein the SiOhas a purity of at least 98%.

Method of making a heating element of the molybdenum silicide type and a heating element

A method of handling liquid non-ferrous metals after smelting. The liquid metal is in contact with a solid refractory material, and in the absence of electrical currents passing through the liquid-metal-contacting surfaces. The solid material is TiSiC. The liquid non-ferrous material can be aluminum or an aluminum alloy, magnesium or a magnesium alloy, or other non-ferrous materials as to which the TiSiCmaterial is stable.

Method of handling liquid non-ferrous metals with refractory material

The present invention relates to a material for use at temperatures exceeding 1200&#xb0; C. and in oxidizing atmospheres consisting generally of an alloy between a metal, aluminium (Al) and carbon (C) or nitrogen (N). The invention is characterized in that the alloy has a composition MAlXwhere M essentially consists of titanium (Ti), chromium (Cr) and/or niobium (Nb) and where X is carbon (C) or where X is nitrogen (N) and/or carbon (C) when M is titanium (Ti); and in that z lies in the range of 1.8 to 2.2, y lies in the range of 0.8-1.2 and w lies in the range 0.8-1.2, and wherein a protective oxide layer of AlOis formed after heating to the mentioned temperature.

Material for high temperatures

A method for the production of a heating element that is composed essentially of molybdenum silicide and alloys of that basic material, and a heating element formed from such material. A material is produced that contains substantially Mo(SiAl)and AlOby mixing a molybdenum aluminum silicide Mo(SiAl)with bentonite clay in a known manner. The bentonite clay contains impure or contaminating substances with which molybdenum silicide cannot be alloyed and with which the symmetry of the crystal lattice of the molybdenum silicide is retained with a combined content of less than 2000 ppm.

Method of making a heating element of molybdenum silicide type and a heating element

A method of producing a heating element made from molybdenum silicide and alloys thereof, and which includes aluminum oxide on its surface. A material is produced that contains substantially Mo(SiAl)and AlOby mixing a mixture of a silicon and molybdenum compound with an aluminum compound. Either of the silicon and molybdenum compounds include Mo(SiAl)and are mixed with one or both of an aluminum compound in the form of AlOor Al(OH)and optionally the compounds SiO, Si, and MoO, or by virtue of the mixture of the silicon and molybdenum compound containing MoOand Al and Si and/or SiO. The input components together have a degree of purity corresponding to at least 98%. The mixture reacts exothermically and/or by being sintered, so that exchange reactions take place to form the compounds Mo(SiAl)and AlO, where x lies in the range of 0.4&#x2013;0.6.

Method of making a heating element of molybdenum silicide type

A method of producing a single-phase composition MAX, primarily the production of the single-phase material TiSiC, where n lies within a range of 0.8-3.2, where z lies within a range of 0.8-1.2, where M is at least one metal taken from the group of metals Ti (titanium), Sc (scandium), V (vanadium), Cr (chromium), Zr (zirconium), Nb (niobium) and Ta (tantalum), where X is at least one of the non-metals C (carbon) and N nitrogen), and where A is at least one of the chemical elements Si (silicon), Al (aluminum) and Sn (tin) or a compound of those elements, such that the final, desired compound will include the components MAX. A powder mixture of the components is formed and is ignited under an inert atmosphere to prevent promotion of dissociation and to cause the components to react.

Method of producing a metal-containing single-phase composition

A method of increasing the useful life of heating elements that consist essentially of molybdenum silicide and alloys thereof, wherein the heating elements operate at high temperatures in heat treatment processes and generally rest against the floor and/or the ceiling of a furnace. The heating elements contain aluminum to an extent sufficient to maintain a stable, slowly growing layer of aluminum oxide on the surfaces of the heating elements, and the heating elements are placed in direct abutment with an aluminum oxide brick material.

Method of increasing the useful life of a molybdenum silicide heating element

A method of increasing the length of life of heating elements that consist essentially of molybdenum-silicide, and alloys thereof, when the elements are operated at a low temperature, such as at a temperature ranging from 400-600&#xb0; C. The heating element material contains Mo(SiAl), and that material contains sufficient aluminum to substantially prevent the formation of pest.

Method to improve the life span of a heating element of a molybdenium disilicide at lower temperatures

An electrical resistance heating element operable at extremely high temperature, up 2300&#xb0; C. when used in a vacuum or in a reducing atmosphere, and up to bout 1200&#xb0; C. when used in an oxidizing atmosphere. The element is formed substantially from titanium silicon carbide (TiSiC), which is readily workable to enable it to be produced in different forms. It also has a higher mechanical strength than that of graphite heating elements.

Resistance heating element for extreme temperatures

A method of lengthening the useful life of heating elements that are formed essentially from molybdenum silicide and molybdenum tungsten silicide and different alloys of those basic materials, at times when the elements are operated at a relatively low temperature, such as a temperature in the range of 400-800&deg; C. The gaseous atmosphere surrounding the elements as they operate has a water content that is less than about one percent by volume.

Method of increasing the length of life of heating elements at low temperatures

The present invention is for a method for heating of blanks and other heating of metallic materials in a furnace before working where heat is transferred to a blank in the furnace by radiation. According to the method of the invention an important part of the radiation hits the walls of the furnace and are reflected there before it is transferred to the blank. Preferably the furnace is designed so that head radiation is reflected also at the bottom of the furnace. At least 50% of the radiation which reaches the blank ought to be reflected radiation. The invention is also for a furnace for heating of blanks and other comprising at least one furnace bottom part ( ) and at least one furnace top part ( ) having side walls ( ) where at least parts of the side walls of the top parts are inclined so that opposite walls are inclined towards each other.

Means and method for heating

An electrical resistance element of a silicide phase according to the formula Mo(Si Al ) , which phase forms alumina on the surface of the element. The element is intended to be used in connection with sintering of metal powder. Because of its surprisingly good ability to form an alumina layer on the surface, this material has shown to be very resistant against corrosion at high temperatures over 1500&deg; C. in both reducing and oxidizing atmosphere.

Resistance-heating element

Molybdenum silicide material with high strength at both room temperature and high temperatures, comprising a composite material, which is made from a mixture including MoSi and ZrO . The mixture includes 5-30 vol-% ZrO and 5-15 vol-% MoB, and the content of oxygen, in the form of SiO on or in particles of MoSi , is below 0.5 weight-%. According to a further embodiment, the composite material comprises 3-35 vol-% SiC.

Molybdenum silicide material with high strength

A process is provided for forming a material comprising an M X Z phase comprising the steps of: (a) providing a mixture of (i) at least one transition metal species, (ii) at least one co-metal species selected from the group consisting of aluminum species, germanium species and silicon species, and (iii) at least one non-metal species selected from the group consisting of boron species, carbon species and nitrogen species; (b) heating said mixture to a temperature of about 1000&deg; C. to about 1800&deg; C., in an atmosphere within a substantially enclosed heating zone, for a time sufficient to form said M X Z phase; wherein the atmosphere has an O partial pressure of no greater than about 1&times;10 atm. The process provides a substantially single phase material comprising very little MZ -phase. A process for preparing a dense, substantially single-phase M X Z phase workpiece includes providing a highly-pure M X Z -phase powder pre-form and sintering said pre-form at a temperature of about 1000&deg; C. to about 1800&deg; C., in an atmosphere within a substantially enclosed heating zone, for a time sufficient to form a dense, substantially single-phase, M X Z -phase workpiece; wherein the atmosphere has an O partial pressure of no greater than about 1&times;10 atm.
