Diode, use thereof, and a method for producing the same

The authenticity of a security document, such as a bank note, is verified by use of a security feature arranged in or on the document, which security feature comprises an antenna arranged to receive EM-radiation from an external energy source; a rectifier arranged to receive electric energy from the antenna and convert it into a rectified current; and an electrochromic display arranged to alter its electrochromic state in response to said rectified current. Hence, a security feature able alter its appearance in response to EM-radiation is provided, which comprises a display that can be given a large variety of two dimensional shapes.

Security document circuit

Device for integrating and indicating a parameter over time

One embodiment of the present invention discloses a circuitry and an element which can be activated, charged, or interacted using any useful source of EM-radiation which is able to emit a suitable EM-field, which circuitry or element can be produced in a cost-effective manner, as well as a method for charging the same. The circuitry or element includes an antenna for receiving and converting EM-radiation into electric energy; a rectifier for converting the energy to a rectified current, and a dechargeable energy cell. The energy cell includes, in at least one embodiment, a first and a second electrochemically active element, which are electronically separated from each other, and an electrolyte which is arranged in ionic contact with at least a portion of both the first and second electrochemically active element, wherein the energy cell is arranged to receive rectified current from the rectifier, and to convert the rectified current into stored energy by altering its electrochemical state in response to the rectified current.

Wireless chargeable energy cell

A thin-film multilayer structure on top of a substrate has three polymer layers having adapted refractive indices in which optical waveguides are formed. Signal conducting metal layers are located at these three thin-film layers. The metal is etched away at the waveguide cores so that ordinary optical waveguides of channel-type are obtained having a refractive index difference between the core and the cladding material. Holes are etched in the polymer layers in order to form electrical vias. Mirrors can be formed by laser ablating to provide connection of an optical waveguide to some component and to provide optical vias, in the case where another similar set of three polymer layers are applied on top of the layers shown. Hence, electrical and optical interconnections can be integrated in the multilayer structure using a minimum number of polymer layers and the optical waveguides can be constructed to have a low loss.

Optoelectric multichip module

The position of an oblique mirror structure inside a polymer waveguide in relation to an optical device is accurately defined by using an integrated mask of metal, which is defined using photolithography, on top of the waveguide structure. When irradiating the surface of the waveguide with laser light, it is only let through where no metal is left, so that the recess formed is defined by edges of strips of the metal layer. In the same metal layer also electrical contact pads are produced used for self-aligning flip-chip mounting of devices such as lasers and photodiodes. Another metal layer can be applied inside the waveguide structure at a place under the waveguide core so that it is hit by and stops the laser light. The energy of the laser light will atomize the metal and the dispersed metal will then be deposited on the walls of the recess.

Method of fabricating mirrors in polymer waveguides

A method and arrangement for aligning a waveguide connector to at least one optical device is set forth. The arrangement includes a waveguide connector and a substrate carrying at least one waveguide. The waveguide connector having both guide legs and aligning elements. The method includes the step of shaking the arrangement at a frequency and amplitude sufficient to cause opposing aligning elements disposed on the waveguide connector and on the substrate to engage each other.

When fabricating electro-optic modules at least one optical transmission module and at least one optical reception module are fabricated on the same substrate. Optical waveguides are arranged on the substrate between a light-emitting component in one module and a light-detecting component in a neighbouring module. The light-emitting component and the light-detecting component are energized and the transmission of light between the components is tested. Then the substrate is split into individual modules along division lines. The optical connection between the modules is then broken and the waveguides can be connected to optical fibers by means of a connector. Electronic driver circuits can be mounted on the modules. The modules can also have integrated electric connections between the driver circuits and the optocomponents. The optical testing is in this way executed in a simple and automatic way involving a minimum of manual operations since substantially all transmitter and receiver modules can be tested at the same time in the same testing equipment.

Ends of optical fibers in an optical flexfoil can be located at inner and edge positions of the flexfoil. Cut-outs are formed around such fiber ends to form tabs, which can be bent laterally from the plane of the flexfoil, so that the ends of the fibers are located at the exterior edges of the tabs. This allows a connection of the optical fibers to external devices in different directions such as a connection in a direction perpendicular to the flexfoil. The flexfoil can be used as an optical supplement to an electrical backplane, the tabs extending through openings in the backplane. Also, an easy handling of the flexfoil is achieved, since no connection tabs extending beyond the edges of the flexfoil are required. This is advantageous for example in polishing the ends of the fibers at the tab ends.

The present invention relates to a method and a device for manufacturing a waveguide pattern in a waveguide connector. The waveguide connector comprising a topographic pattern is placed over a transparent polymeric multilayer laminate arranged on a rigid foundation, where at least one layer consist of a core and at least two other layers are formed of a cladding material, said cladding material surrounding said core layer, each on one side, and the cladding material having a lower refractive index than the core material. The waveguide connector is pressed towards the polymeric multilayer laminate so that the topographic pattern in the waveguide connector stands out in relief in the laminate to form the waveguide pattern in the waveguide connector and where the multilayer laminate is fixed in the waveguide connector after pressing.
