A media receiver hub receives wireless signals from multiple sources (e.g., satellite signals from multiple satellites) and provides the signals to end devices over a local network. According to an example embodiment, a satellite hub is responsive to channel input selections received from end devices by selecting channels from within received satellite signals, and by converting each channel into a format amenable for delivery to and use at an end device requesting the channel. The converted channels are communicated to the end devices over a network that also facilitates communications between the devices, by restricting the communications to using a portion of the available bandwidth of the network, reserving bandwidth for communications with and/or between the end devices (or other network devices).

Media receiver hub

Radio-frequency (RF) circuits, methods and systems are implemented according to a variety of embodiments. According to one such embodiment, a radio-frequency (RF) receiver circuit is implemented with an adjustable RF filter circuit in a receive path of the RF receiver circuit. A local oscillator (LO) generates a LO signal and an RX_LO signal from the LO signal. A mixing circuit mixes a signal received from the adjustable RF filter circuit and the RX_LO signal. An intermediate-frequency (IF) circuit generates an IF_cal signal at the receiver circuit. A calibration circuit implements both a calibration mode and a receive mode. In the calibration mode, a calibration signal is injected into the receive path. A setting of the adjustable RF filter circuit is determined. In the receive mode, the calibration circuit disables the injection of the calibration signal into the receive path of the RF receiver circuit.

Systems and method for a highly integrated multi-mode tuner

An integrated tuner is programmable to optimize its components for either analog signal reception or digital signal reception. Power to the components is increased for analog operation and decreased for digital operation. The tuner also includes a selectable and integrated low noise amplifier that may be selected for single-signal reception and bypassed for multi-signal reception.

Systems and methods are provided. In this regard, a representative system incorporates a crystal oscillator circuit and a digital automatic level control circuit. The digital automatic level control circuit is operative to: convert an oscillation amplitude of the crystal oscillator circuit to a proportional DC voltage; convert the DC voltage to a corresponding digital code representation; and adjust bias current and oscillator loop gain such that a desired oscillation amplitude is set.

A Multi-carrier Switch Converter ('MCSC') for multiplexing a plurality of input signals received at the MCSC into a single MCSC output signal is disclosed. The MCSC may include a Multi-port Selector Switch, wherein the Multi-port Selector Switch receives the plurality of input signals and produces a Multi-port Selector Switch output, wherein the Multi-port Selector Switch output includes a plurality of switched output signals and a frequency translation block in signal communication with the Multi-port Selector Switch, wherein the frequency translation block receives the Multi-port Selector Switch output and frequency translates each switched output signal of the plurality of switched output signals to plurality of translated signals, wherein each translated signal has a fixed carrier frequency. Additionally, the MCSC may include a combiner in signal communication with frequency translation block, wherein the combiner receives the plurality of frequency translated signals and combines them to produce the single MCSC signal.

A simultaneous multiple channel receiver ('SMCR') for receiving a combined signal having a plurality of carrier signals, where each carrier signal in the plurality of carriers signals corresponds to a frequency channel, and in response, simultaneously producing a plurality of output data stream signals, is disclosed. The SMCR may include a down-converter front-end capable of receiving the combined signal, a plurality of digital signal processors, wherein each digital signal processor of the plurality of digital signal processors is capable of producing an output data stream signal of the plurality of output data stream signals, and a multi-band filter in signal communication with both the down-converter front-end and the plurality of digital signal processors.

A method for adjusting the signal to noise ratio of a receiver comprises measuring the peak power for an RF signal and determining, based on the measured peak power, whether the RF signal power is within a desired operating range. The method further includes adjusting an RF attenuation for the receiver, when it is determined that the RF signal power is not within the desired operating rang. The method further comprises measuring a peak power foe an IF signal, determining based on the measured peak power, whether the IF signal power is within a desired operating range, and adjusting an IF attenuation for the receiver, when it is determined that the IF signal peak power is not within the desired operating range.

Systems and method for a highly integrated, multi-mode tuner

A fully integrated single-loop frequency synthesizer, which can serve as a local oscillator for a broadband tuner, is disclosed, thus allowing the creation of a single-chip solution for broadband applications. The tank circuits are integrated into the tuner chip through the combination of a phase-locked loop and multiple on-chip VCOs comprising narrow-tuning range varactors. Drift in the VCOs caused by heat is overcome by designing the VCOs to overlap each other. Initial tolerance problems associated with the VCOs are overcome by the use of a calibration method. The calibration of the VCOs is accomplished by utilizing the lock detect output of the phase-locked loop and a binary search algorithm. The edges of each VCO are determined with this calibration method, thereby enabling VCO selection based on the desired channel. A sufficient number of VCOs are provided such that whatever the initial tolerance shift, the full broadband spectrum can still be covered after calibration. Additionally, the problem of coupling between the local oscillator signal and the incoming radio frequency signal is mediated by the use of a programmable 2/4 divider. This 2/4 divider also provides additional flexibility in choosing the number of VCOs to put on the chip and which VCO to use in a particular implementation.

A highly efficient radio frequency (RF) transmitter provides both wide bandwidth and an extended power control range. The RF transmitter includes stage switching, bias adjustment, and drain supply modulation. These components are used to provide fine and coarse power control and EER envelope fluctuations. The RF transmitter is useful in wireless communications to increase both handset talk time and battery life.
