A pressure sensor configured for biological pressure measurement at a distal end portion of an elongated member comprises a dissolvable hydrophilic material coated on a surface of the pressure sensor. A guide wire for biological pressure measurement may include a tube extending along a longitudinal axis of the guide wire; and a pressure sensor for biological pressure measurement, at least a portion of the pressure sensor being mounted within the tube. The pressure sensor comprises a pressure sensor membrane facing a top side of the tube. A circumferential wall of the tube includes at least six openings: a first distal opening, a second distal opening located on a right side of the tube, a third distal opening located on a left side of the tube, a first proximal opening, a second proximal opening located on a right side of the tube, and a third proximal opening located on a left side of the tube. The first distal opening is larger than the second and third distal openings, and the first proximal opening is larger than the second and third proximal openings.

Pressure sensor and guide wire with hydrophilic material

A sensor guide wire for intravascular measurement of a physiological variable includes: a core wire extending at least partly along a length of the sensor guide wire; a sensor element in a sensor region of the sensor guide wire; a jacket having a jacket wall, the jacket being fixed relative to the core wire; and at least one lead connected to the sensor element. The jacket is tubular and includes a proximal end opening, a distal end opening, and a first set of openings extending through the jacket wall. The first set of openings extending through the jacket wall includes a first opening located above the sensor element, a second opening located at a first lateral side of the sensor element, and a third opening located at a second lateral side of the sensor element, and wherein the first, second, and third openings are elongated in a longitudinal direction of the jacket, and are aligned in a circumferential direction of the jacket.

A catheter and guide wire assembly () for measurement of blood pressure in a living body, comprising: a proximal tube () having a distal end and a proximal end; a distal tube () having a distal end and a proximal end, which is connected to the distal end of the proximal tube (); a fluid-permeable coil () having a distal end and a proximal end, which is connected to the distal end of the distal tube (); a distal tip (), in which the distal end of the fluid-permeable coil () is secured; and a core wire (), which is attached in the proximal tube () and which extends through a portion of the proximal tube (), the distal tube () and the fluid-permeable coil (), and is secured in the distal tip (), wherein the distal end of the proximal tube () and the proximal end of the distal tube () are connected by a butt joint and wherein the core wire () is glued or brazed to the inner wall of the proximal tube () at or close to the butt joint.

Pressure catheter and guide wire assembly

A sensor guide wire includes a sensor element arranged in a jacket in a sensor region of the sensor guide wire; a core wire extending at least partly along a length of the sensor guide wire; and at least one electrical lead connected to the sensor element. The jacket is tubular and includes proximal and distal end openings, a jacket wall, a first opening arranged in the jacket wall, and a second opening arranged in the jacket wall, the first and second openings being proximate to the sensor element. The core wire is adapted to extend through the jacket via the proximal and distal end openings. At least a portion of the first opening and at least a portion of the second opening are both located in the same cross-section of the sensor guide wire, the cross-section being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the sensor guide wire.

A catheter and guide wire assembly for measurement of blood pressure in a living body, including a tubular shaft, which is connected to a tubular extension, which is connected to a permeable helical coil, which has a distal end that is secured in a distal tip, and a core member, which is attached in a distal portion of the tubular shaft and extends through the tubular extension and the helical coil, and is secured in the distal tip. The catheter and guide wire assembly has an outer diameter of about 0.35 mm and an open, inner lumen, which includes the tubular shaft, the tubular extension, the helical coil, and the core member. The catheter and guide wire assembly has a total flow-resistance index less than about 1.2&#xd7;10mm, and more preferably less than about 1.0&#xd7;10mm, and even more preferably less than about 0.7&#xd7;10mm.
