The present invention broadly relates to a multi-layer electromagnetic coupler arrangement, for encoding an RFID tag, suitable for being used in a printing device. The coupler arrangement employs a differential transmission line loop, as a coupling element arranged on a top surface layer of the multi-layer arrangement, which is arranged close to a metallic ground plane layer for shielding on the side opposite the top surface. Coupling is achieved by inductive coupling in the reactive near field and based on the fact that each RFID tag comprises a current loop, itself. The differential property of the transmission line loop is achieved by feeding the terminals of the loop with signal parts having a phase shift of 180&#xb0; with respect to each other. The feeding components are arranged on the opposite side of the ground plane with respect to the top surface layer comprising the current loop. It is possible to arrange plural differential transmission line loops on the top surface layer, in form of a one-or two-dimensional array.

Multi-layer electromagnetic coupler arrangement

The present invention provides a computer-implemented method and system for modifying given layout data on the basis of predetermined parameters for reducing unused white areas in accordance with a given printing layout. The invention is particularly applicable in the framework of label and tag printers employing continuous media. On the one hand, the reduction of unused white areas can lead to an overall reduction in the paper size, thus rendering the labels more environmentally friendly. On the other hand, the layout can also be improved, leading to a better usage of the available space for printing data thereon.

Adaptive coupler for reactive near field RFID communication

A system and method are defined for modifying functionality of a printer that is provided with firmware for controlling printing operations. First programming code is developed that, when executed on a computer readable medium, interfaces with the printer's firmware and modifies the functionality of the printer. The first programming code is written in a first programming language, such as the LUA programming language, and the firmware is written in a second programming language other than the first programming language. Thereafter, the first programming code is executed on the computer readable, and the functionality of the printer is modified as a function of the executed first programming code interfacing with the firmware. The firmware is not modified by the interfacing.

A system and method for operating a printing device is disclosed. A connection is provided between a computing device and the printing device, wherein the printing device is configured with a software application. Instructions are executed on the computing device, which provide the software application on the computing device. The computing device receives at least one input in the software application on the computing device, and transmits to the printing device at least one command associated with the at least one input. The printing device operates in response to the at least one command substantially in the same manner as it operates in response to at least one second input received in the software application provided on the printing device. The at least one first input in the software application on the computing device corresponds to the at least one second input in the software application on the printing device.
